In the mood for any truck pictures?

 

I've been tossing around the idea of getting a K&N intake kit for a while now, but a few years ago my state (Pennsylvania) started enforcing California emissions standards. This means that the only two K&N intake kits available for my truck are not street legal for use in Pennsylvania! It pisses me off that a lot of adjacent states have no emissions regulations whatsoever, but I'm forced to follow Pennsylvania's BS laws.

Does anybody know of any 50-state legal air intake kits for the 2nd Gen 2.7L Tacoma?

Texas is one of those awesome states that hasn't adopted CARB emissions standards! You're lucky!

 

Other than some cool induction noise (it eliminates the intake resonator) it will give you no measurable power gain

 

It's saying 5-7 hp...

Still, I'd love to put one on my truck just to piss off the treehuggers!

 

Wait....what? My county has an emissions thing but I never had any problems. I have a factory air filter, snorkel and I ripped the charcoal filter out.

 

Or I could just find an inspection station that'll just slap a sticker on my truck and overlook the actual emissions test...

 

I thought Cambria County was exempt from emissions...

 

I think this is what happens with mine. They always say we put a sticker on it but you need to fix this. Haha

 

Some parts of Texas only have safety inspections, no emissions...

 

Almost makes one want to move to Ohio or West Virginia...

 

I doubt you would see a 5 hp gain. Even if you did, you couldn't actually feel it.

Really? I still want to add a K&N air filter though. I had one in my 1996 Pathfinder, they're 50-state legal, and I don't have to replace it!

 

I don't know now there was a big thing earlier this year. They used to do it. Or it may be related to the class of truck I believe my dad Chevy 2500 has emissions sticker.

 

2500 and 3500 don't need emissions, though I've seen 2500s driving around with them. All diesels are exempt.

Again, that's Pennsylvania for ya! Land of stupid yearly vehicle inspections and Capone-era liquor laws!

I don't know if it's 50 state legal & don't care (I don't have smog checks or inspections). I put a Safari Snorkel & the high flow K&N air filter (direct replacement) on my 4Banger. Seems to have more get up & go now.

 

Trust me, it's very tempting...

 

My truck is respectably quiet at highway speeds (65-80 MPH), but when I really put the hammer down the engine tends to roar.

 

It's more than just the sound. Some of the hills I had to downshift to 4th I can now do in 5th.
