I drain off a gallon evey year and add a gallon of the pink stuff, a few liberal tears and just a touch of unicorn urine, but not too much, just enough for flavor....

I stated yesterday that I HATE DUI checkpoints.

First, I would like to say that I don't have a problem with checkpoints that are set up with the intention of catching a wanted criminal. I definitely do not have a problem with the border security people checking my truck for contraband if I'm driving to Mexico or Canada. While the interior "citizenship checkpoints" irk me a bit, I don't even have a problem with them so much. This might be because I'm an English-speaking American who knows no foreign languages and has a valid Pennsylvania driver's license as well as a military "privilege card"...

Anyway, as the victim of a drunk driver, I fully support the police doing whatever they can to get drunk and/or high drivers off the road.

I've had one or two times when I drove home after a night of drinking with friends when maybe I should not have, but who the hell hasn't?!?! If I'm ever going home totally hammered, it's in an Uber or Lyft...

I hate DUI checkpoints, at least the ones around here, because they stop every single vehicle. This is why a drive home that should have taken 12-15 minutes took about 40 minutes on St. Pattie's Day in 2017. I handled the brief Q&A session well and was promptly sent on my way by the cop, but it was nerve wracking! I'm guessing that innocent motorists go wide-eyed and start shaking regularly at these checkpoints, because I was and it never aroused suspicion.

I've only encountered one DUI checkpoint, but in Pennsylvania they don't seem to ask for your license and registration unless you're believed to be under the influence and the cops asked you to pull over (the dreaded "2nd Stage"; I passed the first stage, and at that point the cop thanked me for not drinking and driving, handed me a pamphlet about the dangers of aggressive driving, and sent me on my way)...

Do not hold me to this but I believe that in the People's Republic of Commiefornia, everyone who passes through a DUI checkpoint has to show their license and registration.

As a result, these checkpoints in California often end up nabbing more people for violations relating to their driver's license, registration, and insurance. If they've broken the law, then they should answer for it, but whatever happened to the police just pulling people over because they actually saw them doing something illegal?

A police officer spoke in one of my college classes. He said that one of best ways to seek out crime is not based on the driver and passengers in the car, but rather based on violations like a busted taillight or an expired registration sticker. I keep my truck 100% legal for two reason; Because I am OCD about vehicle maintenance, and because I don't want to attract unwanted attention from law enforcement. I've got a clean record and absolutely nothing to hide, but I'm like every other law-abiding citizen on the road in the sense that I don't like dealing with the police unless absolutely necessary and I just want to reduce my risk of potential aggravation as much as possible!

That said, I've only been pulled over twice since I got my license, and both of those times were for moving violations (as in I was actually doing something wrong while driving and there wasn't anything wrong with my truck)!

I feel like police should only be allowed to ask for "papers"
if a person has been observed doing something illegal or if they are suspected of committing a crime (for example, if they match the description of a prime suspect in a robbery or something).

    My belief/outlook is this...

If I were driving my truck into Canada or Mexico, and I get randomly selected for my truck to be searched, then that is totally fine. I care about the security of my country!

However, while I believe in cooperating with police, I am a firm believer in the "castle law".

If my truck matched the description of one used in a crime, or a stolen vehicle in the case of Ali3n's dad, then help yourself! I've got absolutely nothing to hide!

However, I feel like if I'm pulled over for speeding or something stupid like a busted taillight, that I need to exercise my rights. I'll hand over my license, registration, and proof of insurance. However, if I let a cop conduct a warrantless search of my truck just got the hell of it, then I feel like I'm letting my rights get violated. I've got nothing to hide, so go ahead and walk your drug dog around the outside of my truck, but you are not getting in my truck unless it's a matter of national security!

In those cases, police officers will ask for your permission. If you deny, they might bring K-9's. If the K-9 alerts something, that is probable cause to search your vehicle.

There's nothing in my truck that a K-9 would alert on, unless the dog reverts to its basic instincts and alerts on the long-forgotten Primo hoagie wrapper that may or may not be under the passenger seat...

As long as a K-9 sits down near a spot he thinks is concealing something, that is PC. Cops don't need search warrants if they have PC.

    And that's the other thing...

If a K-9 gives a false alert and ends up scratching my paint because he pawed at it, that department will either be paying to get it fixed or hearing from my lawyer!

A city worker was using a weed eater, and threw a rock at our rear window, that shit broke instantly. City hall paid for a brand new OEM window, and for labor costs. If my poor city can do this, I'm sure the affluent city of Doylestown can too!

This actually coincides with interactions with law enforcement...

As you probably know, police officers receive extensive training in reading the body language of a suspect and determining whether or not they are telling the truth...

As such, I've never had a problem convincing a cop of my innocence!

Wannabe cops (security guards, etc), and even plain old John and Jane Does, are a different story...

These dumpsters are only for the use of people working in the building where my bar is located (some investment firm rents part of the building from the bar owner, who owns the whole property). Unfortunately, alleged unauthorized dumpster use is taken just as seriously as unwittingly parking in somebody's reserved spot.

My boss as well as the owners don't give a shit if I dispose of clutter from my Taco in the dumpsters. I also regularly dispose of the bar's garbage in these dumpsters, and even trash from my boss's house...

I understand that not all people are mind readers, but some people seem to be the very reason why God gave us middle fingers!

So, I was tossing some stuff from my truck in the dumpster (I believe it was water bottles), and this middle-aged woman in a minivan gets out of her vehicle and approaches me. She rather rudely and aggressively says something like "that's a private dumpster and you can't use it" and also says something about owning a business on the property or being in some kind of partnership with the owner of the bar where I work.

I tell this "dumpster cop" that I work at the bar and am allowed to use the dumpster, and think that'll be the end of it. No dice...

She rather obnoxiously asks "Really? Are you sure?" That did it...

I began name-dropping, saying that "I'm friends with so-and-so who owns this property, and so-and-so who manages the bar is my boss! Yes, I work here!" I'm pretty sure that my face turned red and my veins started to show!

She seemed to believe me at that point and I went into work. Not long after, I saw the owner of the bar and told her about "some bitch in a minivan who was yelling at me for using the dumpster", describing the color, make, and model of the minivan. The owner knew exactly who this woman was, apologized to me, and seemingly made sure that everybody knew the guy in the silver Toyota pickup was allowed to use the dumpsters. That was at least two (possibly three) years ago, and I have not been hassled for using that dumpster at all in that time...
