    Except it does, because most cultures consider seeking mental help to be an extreme sign of weakness. You’re supposed to just be able to deal with it yourself. The fear of being mocked and looked down on by family and friends keeps most people away from seeking help.

    Amen brother, far too many people don’t seek help for fear of embarrassment, ridicule, guilt. And at the hands - whether cultural, unintentional or otherwise - of their closest family and friends. Our society still doesn’t understand what mental illness is, can be, or is comprised of. And we have far too few healthcare professionals available to treat mental health illness. Private pay? You have a shot. Insurance? Good luck. It’s becoming more of a priority but still very much undertreated.
