Yeah they are going anywhere that is across the state line. Being next door neighbors we get the ones that run out of gas money to keep going.

Do you guys still have to pay an excise/personal property tax on the vehicle?

    Yeah its all a game.

Some states have a personal property tax, other state have registration costs instead. Most of all of it balances out.

I pay $220 to register my truck for a year.

My Dad bought an ‘18 TRD Pro 4Runner and paid just shy of $1,000 for a year registration in CO.

He pays about the same in property tax that I do even though his house costs 5 times what mine does.

Most states get you one place if they don’t get you in another.

    Did you see the update...?

An idiot Toyota tech didn't shut my hood all the way and it started flapping in the wind minutes after I left the dealership!

Service manager is claiming "the valet must have mistaken the hood release for the brake release"...

I have a 2nd Gen with an automatic transmission and someone who works in the service department, of all people, should know that slushbox 2nd Gen Tacos have the push-on/push-off parking brake pedal...

Agreed every state has issues. PA inspections are dumb. Yearly emissions is overkill. Every 2 years makes more sense. PA emissions inspections on brand new vehicles? Unnecessary as new vehicles burn cleanly. CA won’t start emissions inspections until a vehicle has reached a certain age.

Overall I would say CA has a more practical approach to inspections.

With the exception of the fact that you can't register your vehicle until it passes smog. My uncle who lives in Monterey has a '77 VW Westfalia that was originally fuel-injected but someone swapped in a carbureted engine. Commiefornia requires all vehicles 1976 and newer to pass smog, and there are no "Antique Vehicle" exemptions. The bus would not pass smog, so my uncle said screw it and registered it at his brother's house in Texas!

True, the cutoff works to our advantage if you are on the right side of it. Many friends there had classics that had no smog requirements at all because they were early 70s or older model year cars. It’s a nice place to have a classic- no rust issues either.

Yeah, but in Pennsylvania, I can legally register a JDM 1993-older Nissan Skyline in Pennsylvania as an antique vehicle and be totally exempt from emissions. You are technically only allowed to drive a few thousand miles a year, but this is rarely enforced.
