Don't even get me started on the number of door-to-door solicitors we got when we first moved into the new townhouse in Furlong...

My parents bought that house brand new, right after the builder had poured the foundation. They got to choose all of their options. They closed on the house and we moved in around Labor Day Weekend in 2007, less than three months after I'd graduated from high school.

The most prolific type of solicitors were the middle-aged women selling blinds and other window treatments. You knew who they were, because if a guy answered the door they'd ask if the "lady of the house" was home. There were a few gay couples and single men living in the neighborhood, so I'd imagine these saleswomen pissed some of them off...

Anyway, the women selling window treatments were the most common but hardly the most annoying, as they only hit the houses that didn't have blinds or had temporary window coverings.

@Jamesboy2233, why is your high school doing their Homecoming shit on week 9 of RGV football?!?!?!? That's a tad too late.

I can't believe the people against taking an uber. Taxi's are expensive and scummy. I stopped using taxi's when I had a driver that was eating khat. He was terrified I knew what it was.

I spend a lot of boring nights in a hotel and I was thinking of Ubering to kill time and make some money, but looking into I think after fees and everything you end up making $7 an hour. I thought $75 a night would be pretty sweet for just a few hours driving, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Looks like I’ll just have to spend my evenings at the local Applebee’s Bar instead.

My aunt drives for Uber part time and she makes about 5k a month in Monterey taking old people around.

I don't use my Tacoma for Uber, but I do use it for Bungii. It's like Uber for hauling peoples furniture/other things that won't fit in a car. Even though the Tacoma isn't too big, I've hauled a king size mattress and bed frame with no problems.

My Tacoma is also on a vomit free streak, I DD'd for my fraternity for an entire semester when I was pledging and not one person puked the interior. The exterior ehhhh not so much.

Regardless, I'm not interested in being an Uber driver. Ew people and the gas would not be worth it at all considering I get 14 city, 19 highway on a good day.

Only way I would do uber would be in a very efficient vehicle... definitely not in my truck that gets well under 20 mpgs in any kind of conditions. That said, I am a huge believer in Uber as a service. all depends on where you live though. In Nashville, we have tons of taxis but most stink and the drivers can be very rude. With an Uber, I get a retired police officer, immigrant with an entrepreneurial spirit who's ready to hustle for some dough, and professionals who just want to make some extra cash.

I've taken many, many, many Ubers. In all that time I think I've had 2 not-so-good rides with folks in crappy cars that were reminiscent of a taxi. So, it's been rare in my case... funny enough, the 2 that were not-so-good were rides I called when out with clients or bosses. Go figure! ha

Contrast with places like Ireland or even the UK for example where becoming a taxi driver takes a LOT of work, training, and money for a license - which makes the taxi driver job a bit more professional and results in a better experience.

This happened in Doylestown, back in December 2005 if I remember correctly, so I would have been 16 years old...

I had gone to the monthly "First Friday" (defunct since about 2014 because of bureaucratic bullshit) with my parents, and we were walking around. It was December, so it was really cold as to be expected in Pennsylvania, and it had snowed fairly recently.

I was a little bit ahead of my parents, and came to a street corner. It was there that I noticed a styrofoam coffee cup (pretty sure it was Starbucks) that appeared to be somewhat full but also appeared to be discarded, just sitting on the sidewalk. There was absolutely nobody around, and no evidence whatsoever that this was somebody's drink.

Just for the hell of it, I either kicked it over or stomped on it. I don't know why I did this, but it was not malicious or mean-spirited in any way.

The next thing I knew, this burly middle-aged woman wearing a reflective vest comes stomping up to me out of nowhere and demands to know why I'd kicked over her drink.

There was no excuse for me to have done it, but at the same time I didn't think it belonged to anybody since it was just sitting unattended on the ground, so I was at a loss for words.

Luckily, my parents were just steps behind me and came to my rescue...

I apologized, and then my parents took over. I'm pretty sure they gave the woman a few bucks for a new cup of coffee, and they may have also explained that I was in the autism spectrum and occasionally acted on impulse rather than common sense.

We parted ways and nothing else came of it. My parents didn't get upset with me in the slightest, and they simply told me that I should touch stuff that isn't mine. They also said that the woman should not have left her drink there, and that I had absolutely no way of knowing it was still someone's drink.

If I'd been in that same situation without my parents, I honestly would have just run for it. This woman was rather beligerant, and I didn't have any money on me!

Lesson learned: Don't touch (or kick) someone else's stuff even if it seems abandoned!

Thank God what doesn't exist? Door-to-door solicitors? Trust me, they exist...

They seem to leave my neighborhood alone, but we have a Ring doorbell and my parents subscribe to this blog thing where other people in the area post their Ring videos.

There's this one family who constantly gets solicitors even though they have a "NO SOLICITORS" sign in plain sight.

I lived in Oak Harbor from July 2000 until about July 2002...

Are the door-to-door "Kirby Cleaner" salespeople as big of an epidemic now as they were when my family lived there?!?!

This the sign walking up to my front door. I will sit on my couch and stare at you if you knock on my door. I live in the country part of the island so we get a lot of Jehovah Witnesses and Mormon missionaries. The Mormons are cool the JW are rather annoying.

Also, I don't think I am quite going to hit 90K before Thanksgiving, or even on Thanksgiving for that matter...

Car show season is over and because of that I am not driving as often or as far as I do during the summer.

As a point of reference, I started out the summer (end of June) with a little over 84,000 miles on my truck; I passed the 86K mark while driving out to Carlisle on August 3rd. This means I put almost 2,000 miles on my truck in barely over a month!

Before the end of August, I'm pretty sure I had 87K on the clock. By the time October rolled around, I think I was past 88K; I hit 89K while driving from my cousin move on October 19th. So, I've put almost 5,000 miles on my truck in less than five months! Impressive!

On another note, I typically put about 120 miles on my truck per week just driving to and from work. This figure does not include errands during my shift at the bar, so I probably put more like 130-150 miles on my truck per week. This adds up to maybe 600 miles a month, and again, this is only to and from work. About a week into 2018, I had around 79,500 on my truck. This means I've put roughly 10,000 miles on my truck in 10 months, which is just about average...

Some people might remember this post about the Korean woman ("Kathy") who runs a local dry cleaner in Doylestown. The other day when I went in to drop off my boss's laundry, I noticed she was wearing what appeared to be a pink apron of some sort. The top part was tucked below the bottom part, but while it had strings like an apron, it looked more like a skirt. I asked
Kathy if she was wearing an apron or a skirt, and she told me it was an apron, which she was wore over her regular clothes when she did dirty work.

I convinced her to wear the apron in its entirety, putting the upper part around her neck. After briefly hesitating, she untied the apron and put it back on so it was covering her whole body. It was pink with an image of what appeared to be a puppy or a kitten on the front (turned out to be a kitten; I thought it was Poodle skirt at first). Kathy was born in South Korea in the early 1950s, so not only the was she an infant when the poodle skirt was at the peak of its popularity, but she was also living a world away and did not come to America until the 1980s. Basically, she had no idea what a poodle skirt was!

So, Kathy was hesitant to wear the apron properly because she thought it was ugly. I told her she looked cute in it, and I'm assuming she wore it like that until she was finished with whatever she was doing that required her to wear it.

Obviously I don't want a pink apron, but there are times when I do have a use for one. Aside from
the color, Kathy's apron was of a unisex/gender-neutral style and offered better protection than generic bib aprons because it covered the back of the body as well. I wanted one, and when I went to Dutch Maid today, I asked Kathy if she had any aprons in "manly colors like black or blue." She said she did have more at home, but they were all the same size as the pink one and most certainly didn't fit me. Still, she figured it was worth a try since my boss and I are both loyal customers and I had offered to pay her for one of these aprons. She beckoned me into the back room of the laundromat and gave me the pink apron to try on. To say it didn't fit would be an understatement!

Kathy is a petite Asian woman, maybe five feet tall at most...

I'm about six feet tall, weigh more than 250 pounds, and am quite large around the middle. This apron fit Kathy and went all the down past her knees. It barely even fit me as a shirt or smock!

Needless to say, Kathy was willing to pose for a photo last December, so I'm going to see if she'll pose in her apron when I stop by later today; I'm also going to see if I can find an apron like hers, in a larger size and a less feminine color...

I have been behind the wheel of 2nd Gen (2005-Present...?) Nissan Frontiers three times in my life. The first time was almost five years ago (March 2014) when my dad and I rented a silver DCSB 2WD V6/auto with the SV trim (comes pretty well loaded with A/C, cruise, power everything, etc, but isn't loaded like an LE) during a trip to Oklahoma. The truck performed well enough, but I thought ride was much rougher than that of my Tacoma, especially over bumps; My dad agreed...

The second time I drove one of these trucks was a black 2007 SE King Cab 4x4 model with the V6 and manual transmission, at work a few weeks ago...

I forget whether it was a 5-speed or 6-speed, but it was a used car that somebody purchased and I was tasked with detailing it in less than two hours for the new owner; This was the day after I'd talked my supervisor into letting me move a stick shift 2012 Wrangler and ended up stalling it while backing up, and almost a year since I'd actually driven a stick shift on a public road (my Uncle Craig's '71 VW Bus). I stalled twice getting the '07 Frontier up to the detail shop from the parking lot, and then stalled a third time attempting to get it into the wash bay. There's this incline into the wash bay that allows water to drain...

At this point, my supervisor insisted that I let him move the Frontier; a week later, I proved to another supervisor that I was proficient in the art of the third pedal when I was tasked with detailing a brand new VW Golf wagon...

A day after that, I moved a Chevy Sonic RS all by myself...
