    Nice, props to him!

I live and work out of my rig for about three months a year on average, work out of it all year round. From 2008-2011, I was on a book project that saw me living in it on the road for 9 months a year, I met my wife in Yosemite while doing that. So she loves the rig too (as does our cat) and being a remote worker, well lets just say some of her conference calls have been held in some incredible places.

    Boomer.jpg

I came to setting my truck up like this when I realized I was going to go partly broke in having even occasional lodging costs on the book project and yet I needed clean space to live in. So with 550W of solar and a lot of niceties, this will always be the way to go for me. After getting evacuated from my home due to a wildfire last Summer, we had to live in our rig for a week before we were allowed back in. So it got me thinking about how society has made us far too materialistic and possession laden and worse, a lot of people are going to have less and less places to live due to our failing ecology. So I see that a more than likely steep rise in climate migrants are going to be looking to simplify and take on a more nomadic lifestyle choice, even within the U.S. This is going to happen a hell of a lot faster than people think and will give birth to a whole new way of looking at how & where we live and what we live in.

So I think a good side effect of income, housing and climate inequality will be the birth of a host of new nomadic movements. Living in a Taco is only one way of doing this...

I’m with @ColoradoTJ on this one. If you are able to live on your own terms without costing the taxpayer or being a drain on society, by all means go for it. Heck, I did a church mission for a couple years in Central America and it was an awesome experience.
The devil is in the details though. After seeing firsthand the destruction that a lot of the people caused Joshua Tree National Park during the government shut down, it’s clear that a lot people don’t understand that free to them doesn’t mean it’s without cost.

It’s also funny that part of the reason why housing is so out of control is because there is a serious shortage of skilled laborers to build more houses. There is a huge amount of 20-30 year olds that would rather get a worthless degree or do things like live out of a truck than get a skill and go to work and make a lot of money.
I’m not saying that’s the only reason and I know there are a ton of guys my age (I’m 33) who are doing really well because of hard work. I’m also not saying that everyone needs to be a laborer. It’s your life and this is America. Do what you want. That being said, my father in law is a housing developer and he has to plan his developments over a year in advance just to be able to schedule electricians, plumbers, roofers etc.

Sorry for the word vomit. I’m done.

That’s because for years and years everyone was told you needed a college degree to be anything in life. Well guess what, BULLSHIT. I work in a school and am very clear, trade school or some sort of training is what you need, but you need to be willing to work. Both my kids do well in school and are clearly college material, however, I am very clear they have choices.

What do you mean, millennial anti theft device.

I only use it, cause I laughed my ass off when I saw it. And after fighting with a salesman or two to get my manual transmission, I thought it was fitting.

You wouldn’t believe how many kids walk into shit at the end of the school day, good news is the don’t hurt their face, just top of their heads cause their faces are stuffed into the phones.

One of the only exceptions to that are the technical/engineering/medical degrees. My brother suffered for years getting his computer science degree but he had a line of job offers before he was even graduated. Once again, it all comes down to who wants to work.

For a whole article about how he set up his truck to live in it, it certainly lacks pictures.

Also, his bed looks terribly cramped and I can't figure out why he didn't decide to lay it the length of the bed. A RTT would probably be ideal in this situation, and leave the whole bed for storage.

Let's see y'all come to the southeast and stay in your trucks. 120+ days a year over 90° (including night temps) and humidity never below 70%. I envy guys that can comfortably camp all year. It is already staying g above 75° where.i live, even at night.

Of course I enjoyed it just remember there is nothing up there accept an oil field and what goes up must come back down. Since your planning on going in July you'll miss all the ludicrous mud/snow, albeit you will then be dealing with absurd amount of dust, flying rocks and "overlanders".

Start of Atigun Pass you know shits serious when the AK DOT has Cat D10s for road maintenance.

Did I mention the mud has the viscosity of wet cement?

That's sick. I'm on the edge with going. I'm thinking its 3 days there and 3 back from Fairbanks. I may be wrong. Not sure if I want to make it a 6 day thing or not. We will see. I def want to check out McCarthy and the old copper mine SE alaska.

I did Fairbanks to Deadhorse and back in 40 hrs its a long drive but in October the road is quite. McCarthy is absolutely worth the drive so much to see and explore make sure to bring a bike as the walk from the parking lot is long and bus service is not always available.

Im committing to living out of my tacoma for 6 weeks coming up in the bay area as well. Its just when i have a break between two leases. Ive looked around for housing and can afford a room, ive just decided to try to save the money and stick it out in my truck. I will be working full time but gone for weekends and about a week in the middle for vacation. I can spend a couple nights a week in the parking lot here at work, where theres a kitchen, bathroom, wifi, shower.. the other couple nights of the work week ill be finding church parking lots or camping spots in the east bay hills. Looking forward to it, but im glad i only have to do it for 6 weeks and not indefinitely..
