Some try to charge at you. One headbutted it’s own reflection in a car door.

The footrest thing underneath the parking brake on automatic models...

This has only manifested itself in the last couple of days, and not only can I hear it, but I can feel it when I have my foot there as well.

At first I thought it was something outside the cab and I tore open the left fender well with no result.

This noise comes and goes, and is not constant.

Does anybody know how to remove the footrest?

    Just grab it and pull.

To put it back, unscrew the white plastic blocks off the threaded studs, snap them into the footrest, and then push the footrest back over the studs.

Yes, and it’s specifically right under the footrest. It feels like something is actually hitting up against the other side of the footrest. Doesn’t seem like it would be a tire...

I would doubt something is physically hitting the underside of the floorboard. I would more likely think its some sort of vibration. Whenever I get a bunch of mud in my DF tire that throws off the balance, I feel it quite clearly in the footrest.

Hard to tell from those pictures, but it doesnt look like you've lost any wights on the outside. What about the inside of the tire?

Any other info you can provide about the feeling? Is it speed dependent? Is it only when the truck is in motion? Highway or city speeds?

Yeah, sometimes they will add wheel weights to the inside of the tire as well as the outside to get a good balance

Only while the truck is in motion and at speeds above 35 MPH or so.

It feels like something is knocking against the inside of the footrest. If I don’t have my foot on the footrest, I don’t feel it but I can still hear it quite well. It sounds like a clicking or tapping sound on plastic and it is driving me bonkers!

As far as I know the wheels have been untouched since the manufacture date of 9/2009.

I replaced the factory 15” wheels and Dunlop tires with 16” wheels and BFGs in October 2013, at about 31,000 miles. After destroying two BFGs within a week of each other on the same pothole, I went through two sets of tires at a rapid rate (Toyos and Michelins). Meanwhile, the factory 15-inchers sat in two different garages (and the storage space under the back deck) for more than five years.

I decided to go back to stock in March 2019 and put Cooper Discoverer AT/3s on the factory wheels.

your inner fender lining might be loose and the wind from driving at speed may be causing it to flap against the truck

I looked into that. Doesn’t seem to be any looser than usual. This has not been an ongoing thing. It started like a few days ago!

This is not the worst thing that’s happened to my truck...

In May or June 2017, the A/C started leaking. In September 2017, the leak was finally traced to the evaporator core. Almost $1,600 to fix!

Is that a hub centric rim? Pull the center cap and make sure it's centered. Correct tapered lugs? Can't tell. You could have a stuck caliper piston. I had one that acted exactly like that. Is the brake getting hot? Check it with an IR gun. Should be no more than 150F after a normal drive.

It might be worth sticking your head under the truck just to check. You would see a dirty / rusty spot on the edge of the rim where a wheel weight would have been - if one actually feel off. Or you could just take it in and have them balance the tires

Check or have checked the front sway bar end link(s). That can cause this.

The front left caliper actually did get stuck before and melted the brake pad to nothing. This was in March 2018.
