I might have to hit you up at some point. I really want to get into this as well. The biggest reason for building the truck. I want to be able to go most anywhere and camp out. I really think the overland experience would be a lot of fun, but also get me back into camping. I used to do it a lot, but the last 5-6 years have been exclusively at an actual camp.

i've camped at an actual campsite maybe twice in my lifetime, but I much prefer the isolation of forest campsites. Very far apart, and no neighbors is the best. I've planned out several camping trips for 2019, where all we have to do is pick a date and go (permits in hand of course).

Could you elaborate on that a bit?

The reason I'm asking I only camped at actual campsites, but I really like an idea of isolated camping, just wasn't aware when and if I would need permits

No worries! it's pretty easy, just call up the state forest you want to stay at, and ask about the application process, and boom!

That sounds pretty awesome. I haven't been camping for a while as my wife now prefers to have a shower. I enjoy the solitude of camping and doing so in the forest seems ideal. I am ignorant as to where you can camp, and how to apply for a permit though. I know that there are areas in the national forest though that you can drive way back in and be completely isolated. I found i real nice spot while exploring last hunting season. Hemlock bottom with a nice little creek running through. I doubt i'll be adding a RTT this year, but that is the ultimate goal for me.

Honestly if I didn't win the RTT I wouldn't have one. I always wanted one, but couldn't afford it. I'm excited to see how camping changes for us in 2019 with the RTT Vs ground tent that we are used to!

I am the same way. I recently bought a Tepui RTT and I absolutely love it because it make's setting up camp very easy. But I have been having trouble trying to find isolated spots to camp in Pennsylvania!

I didn't even know permits were needed for camping on state park land. I thought they were first come first serve type of deal. There are some decent ones along the river near me as well, but they are always busy. Would be nice to coordinate a float and end up there though.

Let me know whether it is worth it or not. I am used to sleeping in my bed on a cot under the cap. Most of the camping i have done in the last 4 years has been along the river while floating. I just take the bare essentials then....hammock, chair, beer, water, food.

Plenty out near me. Just depends on what you want to do while camping. The National Forest is the best place to get back into where no one is. I live pretty rural though, you can get into some pretty isolated areas just cruising back roads. There are a few areas to camp, but you would still get some quad and UTV traffic.

I'm near the Lehigh Valley so it's a little tough. Delaware Water Gap is the closest to me but it's NJ. Rules are different. I want to get a permit for Tioga though!

Next week when I do the prep before our first winter camping trip (it's supposed to snow!) I'll post pics in my build thread of our loadout. I am in the process of skimming back the amount of crap we bring to a single bin. IDK if this is possible because our kitchen bin takes up most of the space.

    hahaha
