Agreed on the benefits, but at this point in ‘union world’ it’s the ONLY good thing about it!

I was in a union shop for a long while and the mentality that comes with it is something I don’t miss at all.

I’m about the same time frame as you are for “retirement”. I will be working but for myself , my rules, my way. Working a full time job plus my business is a lot now but once that day comes I can step away all this work will be well worbbit.

    Mornin' all. :pccoffee:

Ain't that the truth. I used to help manage a beverage wholesaler and was directly supervising 50+ Teamsters each day. It was a collection of warehousemen and drivers. They would actually go out of their way (read: make more of an effort over their assigned tasks) to make my job as difficult as possible. Even to the point of trying to embarrass and insult me in front of their buddies. I can't tell you how many times I would end up in a face-to-face argument with one of them, with them threatening to file a grievance. I'm normally a mellow and easy-going guy but these dudes would find that button and push the hell out of it. :annoyed:

That job educated me on how unions can corrupt and ruin people who could otherwise be normal, honest and hard working. It somehow perpetuates greed, laziness and dishonesty - all at once. Not all of them can be included in that statement, but that was my experience anyway.

Funny how we’re bashing unions then say how great the benefits are. That’s the whole point.

I'll be eligible for retirement in 23 years. Sometimes I think about had I stayed in the Army; then I'd be eligible in 3 years. But, that would've required me to stay in the Army, so...

Unions aren't the issue. The issue is how they protect lazy pieces of shit and make it impossible to fire them.

    Yep

That's not the whole point of them.

This is exactly right. There was a guy in my department who pissed hot multiple times. He still had a job, the union fought for it. We have a zero tolerance policy. Well, guess it's more like 3 or 4 times policy.

I've chased our union rep outa the shop on multiple occasions. So much so that he doesn't come to me or a couple of the guys anymore.

They're out. The apartment is trashed. It's sad that they can get away with what they did.

I’ll be able to retire in 11 years from the army, I’ll be 38 so I plan to go to school for welding and then just travel. My twins will be right about to graduate high school and go to college, already ready for them to graduate lol

If things go right I should be retired as soon as my house is paid off.

No it doesn't. I really lucked out. 26 years later I still get medical benefits. Medical benefits are what keep people working anymore.

I always joke that my wife brings home the income and I bring home the benefits. It's funny, but it's actually true.

Gotta vent on a union cronnie.
Been here for 30 years has had a cushy job for the 14 years I have been here. 9 months ago he gets rushed to hospital with heart issue.( not during work) almost dies. Meanwhile everyone chips in and take over his duties. Doing them better then he ever did.
He comes back this past Monday and has not stopped complaining about how things were done. Then has the balls to take off every Monday and Friday for the rest of the yeAr, to use his vacation time up.
Btw didn’t lose any weight and is back to smoking.POS
