Toothpicks dont work unless you only rely on your key to open the door. Most cars now a days use remote locks. Just sayin. But I advocate do unto others as they have done to you....as least in some instances, escalation is always an option.

I had a guy about a month ago mad because he opened his door and my slider left a dent because he opened HIS door into it. He actually waited for me to come out because he wanted to exchange insurance information.... I told him if he was stupid and inconsiderate enough to open his door and hit another person's car with his he deserved what he got. I inspected my slider for beamer black paint xfer and scratches that might not have been there before, laughed when I saw no damage, and tried to leave. As luck would have it right as I left a cop was driving by, the guy ran over to him and told him I was fleeing the scene... (I saw this so I stopped and waited for the cop) We both told our story to the cop who was laughing almost the whole time, and he told me I was free to go, there was no crime here.

The moral is sliders ca help protect your truck on AND off the trail, and are strong enough to damage the offender's doors. Poetic justice if you ask me :)

About a month ago some random chick was pushing a stroller with her baby in it from a few rows behind me in a parking lot. As I was sitting in the truck I was hoping she would choose another car to walk past but of course she HAD to choose my truck to go next to. Well, I just sat there holding my breath hoping she wouldn't hit the truck, but of course she just had to scrape it against my front door and front fender flares. I was pretty pissed but since it was a lady with a baby
I didn't say anything. Now if it was some guy, then there would be some :violent:. Luckily it all buffed out when I got home but it looked pretty bad.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
Similar thing happened to somebody I know. Guy in Subaru pulled next to his truck, opened doors that got pickup by wind and slammed to sliders. Door got dented pretty bad and it would not close anymore. So he waited for my buddy to get back to his truck to exchange insurance. Well my buddy refused so other guy called Police they show up measured how far slider sticks out from the truck and said no problem here and let my buddy go on its way. Not sure about other states but in our, sliders can not be further then fenders.

I like this^^^^^^^^^^^. Too fuckin bad. It was in a parking lot, nothing cops can do about it even. And I'm carrying toothpicks from here on out, lol. The worst is when you're are in the truck for whatever reason and some asshat does it and then makes some half ass apology like you're supposed to just suck it up and not be pissed off like it took the ding away. Loved it when it happened a coupla times in my old 82' prerunner beater....they go on in and then I open my door into theirs hard as shit leaving total ding and paint scrape. Wouldn't do that with the "new" one tho. I'm nicer now...to my own truck. The key works great for that if it were to happen now...that and a toothpick in each side, lol. People so need to pay attention to what they are doing nowadays and show respect for other people's property if they want any respect shown for theirs.

When I had my '06, I also parked it far away. One time, I went to a grocery store. Parked far from other cars. Went in, got my groceries and got in my truck. As I started to pull forward, I heard a what sounded like a metal to metal scratching sound. I got out to inspect it and someone had put a shopping cart right next to my truck. I never saw it as I did everything on the driver side, and the cart was on the passenger side. I was pretty pissed.

Now, I look at both sides before I get in my current truck.

I had this happen to me. Still with the dealer plates on. I was parked nowhere near anyone, not even close to a shopping cart return stall either. I came out and what do I notice? Shopping cart touching my truck. As I looked closer, the cart had scraped all down the side of my truck... It made no sense, and still doesn't.

I need to get sliders on both my rigs. Pronto. The Toyota "rock rails" are okay for off road. But they don't stick out even as far as the door handles. :(

I feel your pain. I had someone crease my passenger side door on new 2010 Black Tacoma Dbl Cab 4x4 Sport within a few months of buying it. It was on passenger side and thus I didn't notice it right away, so I don't even know where it happened. I would enjoy cracking someone's skull open over it, but since that lands you jailtime, I guess you just suck it up. In retrospect I should have bought some sliders as well.
