People Who Bash "Import" PickUps

A quick little rant: I'm not sure if there has already been a thread about this, I looked but couldn't find anything. Anyway... one thing that always drives me crazy is when people bash "Import" pick up trucks. I always find guys who drive, Fords, GM, or Rams, bashing or trying to put down people who own or drive Toyotas or Nissans, and they refer to them as "Imports" even though our Tacomas are actually mostly made here in the USA. A lot of the time, more so than their trucks. Only 40 percent of the GMC Sierra's and Chevy Silverados parts are made in the US. They think that owning an "American" pick up somehow makes them a better person, meanwhile, their phone, TV, computer, Xbox, any gaming system, microwave and tons of other things are all made in other countries, such as China. But somehow by owning an "American" made pickup they're better people and their trucks are more capable. I've also heard before, "that's not a REAL truck". I beg to differ though because our Tacomas will last a lot longer. You can talk about where the money may or may not go as much as you want but as far as "American Made" goes these things have more American made parts than people think. It shouldn't even matter where they're made as long as they're quality. Unless of course it's funding some terrorist group or something along those lines, but you get the idea.

Quality matters more than where it's made.

I'm sure many of you already know that our trucks are more American than their Canadian made pick ups but just in case you don't check out this link below and see where our trucks rank, both the Tundra and Tacoma rank high.

I don't put much thought into what other people think about my truck. My view when it comes to a product is the quality of it I don't care where its made if it is made in Zimbabwe and it works I'll buy it if its made in the US and its junk I won't.

I'm an American because I was born here and therefore legally s citizen of this country it has nothing to do with the vehicle I drive.

My thought would be enjoy your truck and give zero fucks what someone who disagrees thinks.

That being said to a certain degree some bashing is just shit talking. Just like Army ragging Navy or one NFL team ragging another. Anyone who thinks they are more American or more Canadian or more whatever based on the "localness" of what they own is pretty much a fool.

It's not that i care what they think, otherwise I'd be a puss and buy something else just because of their opinion. It's simply their ignorance that baffles me, if it's quality I'll buy it. If America made crappy pick ups and Zimbabwe made better ones then I'd buy one from Zimbabwe too.

If they hade common sense less Chevy's would be sold so look at as a positive for GM. Which in turn is a positive for everyone because competition is always a good thing.

I think a lot of it boils down to this is the brand my father drove so I drive them too.

One of my uncles years back was an engineer for Chrysler Motors he usually drove Fords and they forced employees who drove non MOPAR to park in the back of the lot. Now he drives Chryslers primarily because he gets a huge discount because he retired after 35 years.

That is very true sir, good for competition. And common sense definitely isn't common! :(

I drove a 'import' for a few years (2001 tacoma) and I was ready to get rid of it. Owning and driving a truck isn't all about reliability. At the end of the day, by drivin your tacoma, you're drivin a foreign made car: whether most of the parts are made in the USA or in china, by drivin a tacoma you are supporting a foreign based company.

It doesn't bother me than my Ford isn't as 'reliable'. I'm willing to get my hands dirty and work on my truck. And I feel pretty good about it cause at the end of the day, I am representing an American company every day I drive that truck. I have pride in both my truck and my country. And it feels like a truck. That 2001 tacoma, man it felt like it was built for a 5 year old. (for example, you stick one or two fingers through the interior door handle on the tacoma, while the Ford truck you use your whole hand. The toyota is more of a car than a truck)

Oh, and I can pronounce the name of the founder of Ford (Henry). Who can pronounce the name of the founder of toyota? (kiichiro)

Yeah, nothing beats supporting forced collectivization and Union labor like buying "American".

Vehicle was purchased used with running boards, 3" lift, 17" Moto Metal wheels, BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO tires, bed liner, tow package, and bike hooks. Mods Added (ongoing): Hood w/ Scoop (inbound)...
First thing I did was put two American flag decals on my Tacoma.

Ford has the most recalls of any car company. They make a great truck, would I buy one, no. Not new.

Sure toyota corporate is in another country, but if they produce a healthy amount of their american market cars in america then they are supporting jobs in this country. so sure they aren't "american" but they put food on the table for many americans. My tacoma says "Made in America" on it, most "american" cars won't even say that. I'm glad you found the truck you wanted, an F350 is a little different then the midsize truck, but hey there are plenty of pictures of compact toyota trucks doing things that most fullsize american trucks wouldn't even dream of doing. seen pictures of hilux's pull tanks out of the sand, seen hilux's with 40mm cannons on them, jus sayin, a truck doesn't have to be the size of landyacht in order to be a "truck".

One also needs to remember the USA just about rebuilt Japan from the ground up.

In my misguided youth buying anything from Japan was almost considered Treason .

Then it was Taiwan producing poor quality.

Now Japan and Taiwan are looked at sources for quality.

Now it is China for the most one really can`t compete with slave labor.

I will say it is far easier to get older New Parts from Toyota then most American Companies.

I've been driving Toyota's and Honda's for 20+ years. Gave GM another shot and bought a new 2015 GMC Canyon. Drove it 7 months and almost 10,000 miles. Traded it for a new Tacoma. Lets' just say that I almost feel sorry for the poor guy that buys it. Lesson learned. No more "American Trucks" for me. Much too expensive a mistake.
