Do you experience a clunk/thud sound going over/down a bump at low speed? I just installed total choas LCAs and king shocks tuned for my set up from accutune. Sway bar is off, every bolt torqued correctly and even got the leveled lower shock bolt from 303 so the shock is sitting flat on the bolt unlike oem bolt. shock bearings are lubed. I'm reading that indeed king shocks make a thud or clunk sound at low speeds on bumps. Not a single thread I've researched has come up with a solution except from a post where the guy said king told him they do make a sound. I don't mind it as long as its normal, I understand race car parts make different sounds. I also understand the choas lca's have poly bushings and this is my first time with poly bushings. People with king shocks what is your experince? did the sound go away as the shocks wore in?

Edit- SOLVED...driverside shock to LCA bolt came loose after about 50 miles post install. Good reminder to check torque a couple of miles after any install or use grease pen on bolts to make a vidual marker so you can easily see if a bolt came loose.

My truck has never made a clunk/thud sound going over a modest bumps while daily driving or aggressive dirt road driving. I have hit stuff hard enough off road to make noise though. I have no reason to believe the noise originated from the shocks though.

In general shocks should not make any clunk/thud noises. You might have other issues.

they are silent after idle speed. only make thud sound over bumps at give or take idle speed, strange huh? just weird because i dont think its the shocks topping out as they were configured to my trucks set up. i know im not the only one with this situation because theres many threads on it, just none of them are conclusive at all. I guess I'll try contacting King themselves.

accutune did the set up so I was assuming everything was good to go measurement wise. I will check that my shocks are 21" from top hat to eye tomorrow. Most likely thud is not coming from bump stop as I have the sumo-springs and they are very low noise when hit, if any.

One size doesn’t fit all, Accutune leaves them at “stock” height from the factory, but lots of factors for weight etc come into play, definitely worth checking that 21” measurement to rule it out.

One other thing to make sure right off the top as well, Did you torque everything down with the wheels on the ground during install?

I torqued everything with wheels on the ground that had a bearing or bushing. I torqued the 3 tower shock bolts and the two lower ball joint to knuckle bolts in the air. I'm will do another full check tomorrow, maybe it's something simple I missed. Torque numbers from tacoma service manual. Would be nice if I did find the solution for future people with this problem.

only running a 1 inch lift so I'm guessing that doesnt put me anywhere near any limit.

yeah, thats the same feeling I got reading other threads on this same problem haha and i'm confident in the work I did. I'm going to recheck all my work tomorrow and hopefully it's something silly I missed. Just a shame that I spent a massive time on researching before I did the project only to come out with a sound I dont like. wish me luck:cool:

RCI rock sliders engine/trans/transfer case, differential and A-arm skids. ARB twin-compressor, rear air locker. Bilstein 6112/5160 with Icon RXT Leaf Packs. UpTop Overland Bedrack.
I was chasing a “popping” sound in my front end and retorqued everything on the front end. Ended up being my skid plate was rubbing on the chassis after being bent while off-roading, causing it to pop and creak at low speeds during turning or anytime the front end was articulated. Have you checked your skid plates for wear marks? Just an idea.

solved, drivers side shock to lca bolt came loose:eek:. luckily bolt only went down a couple of threads and not all the way off. really sorry to waste everyones time, good reminder to check the all the bolts after a couple miles after any install as i learned the hard way here. btw, the king shocks feel amazing if anyone is wondering. not only does it feel like they absorb the bumps SO well but my back and body feel less fatigued after driving. way worth the money just from that point because i have a bad back.

^Speaking from experience, it will come loose again ;) Same with the UCA bolt and leaf hanger bolt. Change to nyloc nuts.

Use a little dab of red locktight on the threads.

Switch the Front lower shock mount bolts out with ones from a 5th gen 4runner and the spherical bearings on the King socks will last longer.

I was wondering why some of these nuts werent nylon when I was installing them. Time to switch them out. I usually mark everything with one of those grease pens so I can visually see if the nut came loose, just didn't have time to do it after install.
oh nice I didnt know you could use ones from the 4runner. Is that because they are flat unlike the tacomas lower shock bolt? I used the flat lower shock bolt that 303 Shock Service sells on their website, so I guess it's still better than the oem.
Thanks. For anyone else I do recommend Accutune. Got the tuned front shocks from them in a timely manner and most importantly they were informative in their emails on every concern I had. Ordered the rear Kings a couple days ago too, cant wait to feel how it rides with the full King set up.
