I got 4 new mud tires about 10,000 miles ago from Pep Boys. About 2 months ago I had them rotated and rebalanced. Today I just noticed they had installed 3 tires of 265 / 75 and one of my fronts is a 285 / 75

How hard can it be to install all the same size. They made it right and put a new 265 tire on to match the other 3 but now I wish I would have known that the 285 would have fit from the beginning.

anyway never thouught to check the sizes after the install.......won't make that mistake again. Keep an eye on anything Pep boys does, They claim to be a full service garage...........not getting my vote right now.

i would think so, up until recently though the mis match was on the back but i did have a severe clunk when disengaging 4wd which I had just attributed to new MT tires but after getting the new tire oddly enough no lound clunk........smooth again.......wow that is some funny shit --just like gasoline and gravity.....damn pepboys

I would have demanded 4 new tires at the very least. Now you have 3 tires that are 10,000 miles worn with one thats new.

That's bad. That means one wheel is turning at a different rate than the other three wheels.

On AWD vehicles, it's recommended to change all four wheels together. If you don't it can cause unnecessary wear on the differentials.

This scares me. When daddy bought my truck, he bought the maintenance service for it which includes the oil change and all those other goodies; I can get the service done at the dealer where I bought my truck or any Pep Boys in which I live a distance from where I got my truck from which is near the parentals. But being a girl, I don't notice any of these things...maybe I should check next time! THANKS BUDDY!

I like Jiffy Lube, they're always nice...I got my 30,000 plus mileage change there because the damn dealers told me about $8000 but since my friend worked there he did it for like a little over a bill.

You've got an insider there, so you're probably ok, but I have heard some terrible things about Jiffy Lube as well.

Wow, I can't believe you didn't notice that. Thats a big size difference. Not good for drivetrain at all, especially if you have a LSD.

not to many, love it the way it is
There was a tire blowout on another truck I had and the truck had 20k miles on it. I put the spare on ( it was a 5 set and the spare matched the tires) and never had any problems with the tires wearing unevenly. I got 106k out of those tires! only got 50k out of the next set I put on.

Pep boys sucks so bad! My company had them repairing all the vehicles under a contract. They did such a piss poor job. The company yanked the contract & put the local Pep boys shop out of business.

I worked at pboys when i was a sr. in h.s. It was part time and i knew i wasnt gonna make a career there (not that it was a bad job)...anyway i saw alot of shoddy work done there and some shady buisness practices when it came to women customers.
    some of what i saw:
car came in for trans service, mechaninc was in a hurry, dumped new trand fluid in after draing old fluid but didnt drop the pan and clean it. the new stuff stirred up sediment in the bottom, it got in the trans, took it for a ride, 5 min later the car was in the lot not moving

car in for brake job. the mech, drains fluid, replaces rotors, calipers and pads. takes car off lift, puts in reverse, crashes into wall when brake pedal goes strait to floor.
There were some skilled, hardworking guys who worked there and did a good job too. dont want to bash it too bad and im sure many people had good expirences there. But like chain restaurants, stores, and other similar things, quality and service sometimes suffers for a lower price.

1 year after i left that store went out of buisness partly due to employees stealing money and a very low volume store.

    stock, for now
when i got my old jeep wrangler i dropped it off and pep girls for oil change and check the brakes..

well, they called me and told me they couldnt drain the oil, because it had one of those quick drain things on it, and the "tech" couldnt figure out how to get it off, and the worst part is they had them on the shelves!
pads were also in "IMMEDIATE" replacement stage..told them to go fuck off..

went to midas, and they did the oil change, and the brakes were fine. Never been back since.

Why would anyone go to Pep Boys for anything? Well, I guess if you need some chrome double bladed wipers or circa 1984 headlight covers.
