I bought a 2008 Toyota Tacoma trd sport march 1st 2025 recently found out that it has some rot on the frame(not sure how bad I’m just getting into trucks) since I can’t tow things I want to give the engine some boost, was wondering woudl I need to tune anything if I do performance ignition coils as well as performance fuel injectors, And how would I go on with tuning and if I’m doing these “upgrades” should I do any other “upgrades”…. 130,000 miles runs pretty good other than I might have a vacuum leak that I’ve been post poning to check bc limited mechanic space but no light or codes

IMHO, I wouldn't spend any money on performance mods, lift kits or anything else for that matter until your frame issues are taken care of and you know you have a safe and solid truck to work with.

Coils and injectors won’t do a damn thing unless you have bad coils and injectors.

The only way to get more power is a supercharger or turbo, and both are expensive. If the frame is trash I would focus on that versus spending money on the motor.

I had taken my truck for a transmission flush, diff change, etc while they were changing the water pump bc it went bad. The mechanic from Toyota told me that they tried to repair the frame in places but he wouldn’t recommend me tow anything but I can still max my bed out so idk if that gives an idea. Also my engine feels like it can give me more when im on the freeway it’s just something is kinda clogged or not allowing me to reach the potential. that’s why Im replaying the fuel injectors and coils

Send some frame pics. Plenty of people have bought one of these trucks only to find out the frame is a danger to everyone on the road, as well as the new owner.

Once that gets sorted, can go from there.

Pics that are best are around the suspension components up front (multiple angles) and same with around where leaf springs attach to frame out back. Sometimes around the leaf spring front bolt location they can be BAD. Any other general photos of questionable areas is good. And don't be afraid to bang the frame with a ball peen hammer. If it dents or damages the frame, you know you have a serious issue.

Make sure you know exactly how that frame is before investing. These threads pop up here all the time from someone just bought a used truck with a rusty frame.

This, see how bad the frame is first. Look at the area near the cats.

Also Look at the frame up near the front tires. You have to get under the truck and look where the frame is sandwiched together. that area captures moisture and promotes rusting.

Not sure what you mean by can't tow things.

Or why you'd be looking to change performance if you haven't fixed a vacuum leak.

Or what you mean by "some boost".
The engine is either boosted or it's not. Certain parts are required to boost it.
Certain parts are required to not boost it.
If you are running non-boosted, then non-boosted parts do what is required to run the engine non-boosted.

You said boost. Boost is a $5K+ endeavor. That involves a frame that is not falling apart.

Yeah... Those pics don't look so hot. Think you got a couple holes that aren't supposed to be there. If I was keeping that truck I'd put any truck funds into frame repair. From a professional.

Don’t fall for that “performance parts” scam there is no such thing as “performance” ignition coils, they work or they don’t. If you think something isn’t right, try replacing some stuff like spark plugs, air filter and coils with new >>>OEM :humble:<<<< parts, it can’t hurt. As for the performance stuff, you can’t gain 20 HP from the word performance. You can pay extra for the word performance but it’s not going to get you anything except second rate Chinese parts. Avoid Forza and need for speed as your car modification database.
I too wanted the dragon fire “performance” ignition coils on my truck when I first got it. Everyone goes through dark times :bananadead:
