Happy Easter! I am a new member and I have just purchased an 04' 4wd 4cyl. 5spd. manual trans X-tra cab that I am having shipped here to Louisville, Ky. It has 106,000 miles on it. One owner. I am wondering about all the performance chips I see on Ebay. Anything you guys can tell me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Welcome to the board!!!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THE EBAY CHIPS!!!! They do absolutely nothing for your truck performance wise. You would be better off taping a bag of these to your motor:

Well, if it sounds too good to be true it usually is. No improvement in fuel economy at all? You say better to spend my money on beer and tomato juice? Thanks

No, they make mpg worse. They trick the ECU into running rich. So you actually lose fuel economy.

That is really strange. They claim to make them run leaner. Any place here on the site there is anymore info on this subject?

Some of those chip DO make the engine run more lean. They work by altering the resistance valuse of the sensors they are attached to. They "May" work for a few min. or so, but as soon as the computer realizes that something is wrong, On goes the CEL, and the computer goes into "limp" mode. They are a simple resistor bought from an electronics store. If it did any good for the engine, rest assured some Dude in Osaka, Japan would have put it in from the factory.
