performance chips

Wow, don't usually see a "performance" chip thread so soon after the last one...

When they don't post up their dyno sheets, it's kind of a warning sign.

 

As the others have said- proper maintenance will be your best use of $$$ to get MPH back. Cleaning MAF, TB, and IAC would be great, engine oil and air filter, fuel filter, and injectors would all be things to consider on the power side, and then start to think about drive line- u joints, carrier bearing, pnion bearing, front and rear wheel bearings, transmission oil, transfer case oil, front and rear diff fluid.

 

Crazy is they actually accept returns after a modest restocking fee

"Performance" chips on all motor vehicles is a gimmick. Spend your money on maintenance instead.

 

Surely you don’t mean for that to apply to *all* ecu upgrades. Try telling that to the Subaru/VW/Audi crowd.

 

I drive a turbo Audi, I know exactly what I'm talking about. Aside from raising rev limiter and removing the governor, it totally isn't worth the money to throw a chip on an NA ALL MOTOR car. I never said all vehicles, just NA vehicles.

 

You post wasn’t clear to me at first…when you wrote “all motor vehicles” my mind went to all “motor vehicles” instead of “all motor” vehicles. Following up with NA was helpful.

 

Ah yes, "all motor" meaning no turbo or supercharger or any power adder.

 

I’ve used chips on my diesel and gas turbo vehicles, added about 25% to hp and torque. What I used was German and it bumped turbo boost, supposedly within euro spec. Drove them each to 350,000 kms with no issues, fuel economy with the chip was not effected.

Hard to get any real performance gains with a chip without the engine having a turbo or supercharger.

If there was anything worth buying for our tacomas, someone here would know about it and it would have sold hundreds or thousands of chips?

 

The good old days when you could get up a tuned ECU (Stage II/III) through your car club for a 90-95 model VH. It used an external switch for Stage II (30HP) vs Stage III (40HP).
