My opinion regarding those type of bulbs, essentially they are the SAME halogen bulb as stock HOWEVER have a blue film on it to give it a "whiter" look. This doesnt really do anything in terms of better visibility as you can think of it a bit logicily and understand if you put any film or in this case "layer" on the halogen bulb, it would DIM the output a bit. So essentially, the HIDs would provide a better output.

On the other hand, if you are more old school and not really looking to complicate things, those halogen super whites (Philips XtremeVisions’s h11) are a good ALTERNATIVE to HIDs as they are simply halogen bulbs. By that I mean, you are not going to be dealing with after market HID Bulbs or Ballast which you can understand more components more "chance of failure". If a light goes out, youd have to figure out whether its the bulb or ballast, etc which if you want to do the least work as possible, the Philips Bulbs may be your best shot.

Overall nothing work with the halogen bulbs as you have projectors so your output will look good with super whites or HIDs.

The 2017 Tacoma I had with the factory bulbs was terrible. The light output was criminal.

I installed Morimoto HIDs and that helped immensely.

Any reason you went with those vs Xenon Depot?

    Op,

Here is a great quality HID kit that I have installed in many vehicles and quite a few 4Runners with projectors. You need H11B bulbs And I would recommend 4300 or 5000k.

Here is my T4R with 4300k bulbs. So much better than the halogen bulbs, good cutoff, nice spread, and decent hotspot area.

If you want a little whiter do the 5000k. IMO the 5000k look a little better and run around 4700k with the 50w ballasts in this kit.

I just swapped to the 4300k bulbs because my 5000k’s were 4 years old and I only had the 4300’s on hand.

I read good/bad things about that kit. Some have said that the output looks way too yellow?

Ask for he 5000k then, like I said I liked that the best and had the right amount of light output and the color looked good.

Mostly due to the good reputation of the Morimoto bulbs. Hindsight being what it is, it looks to me like the Xenondepot connections and harnesses are likely superior, but I had zero issues with the Retrofit Source kit.

These are the Morimoto 4500k HIDs.

Op and contrary to what most say you do not need a harness, its overkill. I’ve done a ton of Toyota Halogen to HID kit conversions and never once used a harness or had an issue. The plug from the factory headlight bulb plugs into the wire that the bulb comes with then into the ballast. Make sure you check for proper polarity as the Toyota’s are normally reversed.

With Morimoto what’s the difference with these hid bulbs https://www.theretrofitsource.com/h11b-morimoto-xb-hid.html compared to the hid kit bulbs? https://www.theretrofitsource.com/h11-morimoto-elite.html?preselect=51812,54419,47309

They are both h11b, but if you look closely the one with the yellow rubber ring has a different looking connector vs the red rubber ring.

Your missing the point. On this one (1st pic)
the yellow rubber ring has a different looking connector. Vs what comes in the HID kit. (2nd pic).

Is the 1st one more heavy duty or?

I didn’t miss the point, watch the video to tell you the difference, it explains your initial question, your welcome.

IDK about the color of the rubber, I doubt one is heavy duty.

I understand the concept of h11a vs h11b which is all the video discusses, but that wasn’t my initial question. My question was (if you checked out my links) why the plug in adapters look different on the bulbs.

I ended up going with Morimoto’s HID kit mainly because Xenon Depot never replied to a simple question above in this thread. I asked about the non existent hotspot on their XD Pro led’s everyone is talking about. Plus the fact that they’re in Canada....I would rather support a company here in the good ‘ole USA.

I can’t imagine XD’s after sale support if they can’t backup their own product on a simple thread like this.....or even reply for that matter.

Plus the Morimoto has a brand new all in one design on their bulbs. I spoke to a customer service rep who explained the updates. As far as shaking goes, not sure if everyone knows but Xenon Depot has as much shaking as Morimoto does....maybe even more than people realize. I have read countless forums and people talk about this all over the place. Shaking simply depends on the housing and if anything I’ll just buy a heavy duty rubber circle piece for the bulb if needed.

I’m still not 100% in if I should leave the stock fog light bulbs or go with led??? @crashnburn80 is telling me “Stock fogs are best. You do not want to increase foreground light when not needed as it reduces distance vision.” Many members on here seem to have led fogs, but it sounds like that’s not not the way to go.
