Performance Suspension-How important is the rear?

    I am wanting a performance suspension for not a lot of money and don't want to settle. If I have to save more that is fine, but I'd rather not drop too much money.

    How important is the rear? If I get King res. coilover's up front and leave the rear will that be OK?

    What if I get 5100's for the rear?

    What if I get King shocks for the rear also?

    Obviously the Kings are the best but at what point am I experiencing diminishing returns (i.e. next step is not THAT much better)?

    Help is appreciated!

    Electric Dynolock tailgate, TrailGear Slides, , 285/75-16 Yoko Geolanders on Wheelers Type B, SAW 2.0 front and back, Camburg b/j UCA, 1.5" AAL, Ubolt flip, ARB bump.
    There are benefits from rear shocks alone but for a full rear "upgrade" you'll need to do a good set of aftermarket leafsprings to really fully benefit from the Kings rears.

    I have some real nice SwayAway shocks on mine's rear and the ride is improved off road but when it comes to flex/articulation my stock leaf springs limit the travel; at full droop my leafsprings are maxed out but my shocks still have alot left.

    It will depend on how you wheel: if you're into highspeed cross-desert style then your Kings in the front will be good an hour into it but your stock rear shocks will have 'overheated' and be of little contribution to the handling of the rear and it could get real bouncy in the back.

    If you're into flexy ruts/rocks then the heat factor won't be as substantial but the stock shocks won't allow alot of flex; with new shocks (anything longer) you have a bit more flex but the springs will limit; and with all new rear you'll get alot more flex than with stock.

    Even with my stock springs, the new shocks make the ride much more controlled off road (slow flexy stuff) and just a better ride. I would probably be just as happy with the bilsteins but I'll never know.

    I kinda like my stuff to match...

    2 ten inch kicker cvt subs, pioneer deck and alpine 1000 watt class D amp, and flowmaster exhaust, 4 inch camburg lift spindles and my coilover is adjusted to 1" (5inch total) in front and 3" All Pro leafs, KING off road racing reservoir shocks and coil-overs, KR FAB CUSTOM BUMPER with three 9" HELLA 4000 Race LIGHTS , HID headlights with rigid amber LEDs , "KR Fabrication" custom built bumper, sliders and tiregate, Full size spare with matching rim, custom bed bar with two amber off road lights, cb radio, also BHLM (thanks Ray), and debagged
    yea do a leaf pack... cuz i have kings on all four corners... and had blocks in the rear and yes that was stupid for me to do... lol... but those leafs and good set of bumps will do really well...

    A rear is only important if you are going to take it the same place the front is going!

    Rear suspension set up is very important. - I like to do a combo of fast desert driving and slow rock crawling and things in between. One area that I think one should remember is bump stops - I personally use Timbrens (rear) and Wheeler's (front).

    Best of luck. Decide what you want (what you are going to use the truck for and then design/spec your suspension.

    There right.... The front will only go as fast as the rear will let it.... have a plan, decide how you want to use your truck, and learn as much as you can so you can understand what your fabricator is talking about. Then build it..:D

    You cant use not a lot of money but dont want to settle in the same sentance... lol

    If you ever plan on doing something remotely close to prerunning the desert scene then you'll for sure need the 2.5" rear shocks and some good springs. Many of the desert guys will even argue that the rear will limit your truck more than the front will.

    Yeah, I don't know where I saw it (I'm OLD and I'm loosing my memory), but I know someone with about 2,500 miles on it and they burned the decals off of the bilstien shocks (oe off road)!

    This guys is a young buck! I wouldn't listen to him!

    My opinion, if I could remember my opinion long enough to quote it...
