Will Toyota just laugh at me if I complain about this? Would they go as far as replacing the headlight?

This permanent marker is on the inside.

Not a huge deal but now I can't stop noticing it.

I think if you ask them to replace the headlight, Toyota will.

That being said, I myself would not let it bother me and wouldn't ask to have it changed out.

    Fwiw.

I don't think they would normally replace it unless you raised a stink. It's cosmetic with no impact on performance or function of the headlight.

I get it though, there's always that one thing that bothers you. When I buy a new vehicle I kind of look forward to that first thing that scratches it in some way, so then I can stop worrying about it and just use it like the tool it is. My Taco was really easy for that, the day after I bought it I hauled cement fixtures to the landfill. Truck is a truck, dings are badges of pride.

Permanent marker marks can be removed by writing on the mark with a dry erase marker and wiping off immediately. I don't know how to get to the inside though...

It isn't about him/her being anal or buying a "car with a bed on it"...he paid probably $30K+ for a brand NEW vehicle and it should come perfect not with blemishes or marker stains on the headlights. They replaced a wheel because it had a small ding/mark on the lip from either putting/removing from the truck or something else. Granted I did catch this on the walk around before taking ownership.

I guarantee if one of us received a set of wheels, roof rack, bumper, etc and it was damaged we would definitely call the shipper or dealer to get a replacement/refund/etc...not sure why the expectation is different for the actual truck.

"Guarantee"?- not possible to anticipate what others will do 100%, right?

I believe everybody has the right to ask a vendor to address complaints.

I also think that Toyota would give OP a new headlight if he demanded it- not 100%sure, but that is my guess.

If I had a vehicle with some blemish, I would think long and hard about asking a dealership to correct it, simply because I don't like other people tearing my truck apart for something I consider trivial. Something major/ mechanical goes bad, ok- let a competent person address it.

A blemish on a tire rim or bumper? Misaligned bed? Some fisheye in the paint? Nope! Those are things that are never going to remain pristine, so just let it go- but that is just me.

Fwiw, since you kind of quoted my post.

    Cheers

The cost doesn’t determine how I value my truck. And I can guarantee with some actual credibility that I would wipe it off, and if it didn’t come off, I would get in and drive away, having forgotten about it as soon as I turned up the music.

See I thought he meant like an entire sharpie rattling around in the headlight.... That gave me a chuckle.

I'd probably ask them to fix it but wouldnt raise a stink if they didnt.

Basically is it worth your time to leave your truck with them for a day to get it out?

I agree; probably not worth raising a fuss about or risk them taking it apart to fix.

It is inside or I would polish it out. I'll probably just mention it at my 10k check up.

I just have a hard time thinking if people ordered expensive parts and they came damaged/not perfect that the buyer wouldn’t say something. And I agree...never “remain” pristine but it should be or damn close when new. I’d probably ask Toyota next time I was there for a routine matter and move on either way. There’s a certain expectation when ordering or buying something new. Just my opinion, which really doesn’t matter haha.

Lol I ordered 2nd gen Pro headlights. One was damaged, the damaged one, or was it the none damaged one had a small marker mark on the bezel.

Had those lights been on the truck I doubt if would have been noticeable. I think I only noticed it while inspecting for damage.
