doubt it. All the dash lights will be on if they did that.

no that’s what I’m saying is they would go into techstream and stop it from coming back on automatically with each key cycle- that’s what they were doing during the tss recall to modified trucks (non stock tires/suspension/grille) And that was awhile ago. They weren’t replacing or calibrating those trucks for the recall, they were doing this… remember the people that were complaining about it and were told to sign a paper and such? And it was free

I had a non stock grille (although, sr/5 not the common pro swap), but wasn’t experiencing issues, they put that foam pad (water diverter) on the unit and I asked them to also go into techstream to change that setting to not auto default to on after every start and they had no problem, didn’t make me sign anything nor had to pay. I still have it on but I wanted the option to turn it off completely if I wanted too. That’s what I don’t understand about this “new” solution… I keep thinking I have to be missing something here

Under TSB 0059-18, a driver already has to deliberately reactivate PCS through the dash menu. This new TSB only seems to completely take that choice away from the driver. It adds up to deleting a menu option, which is COMPLETELY pointless.

Also, I'm not seeing TSB 0026-20 anywhere - not on NHTSA, nowhere.

Pretty much, yeah. That said, if you have done some potentially irreversible modifications to the truck that can permanently affect the PCS operation (6" lift where the frame is modified for instance) it could make sense to permanently disable PCS, especially in cases where a vehicle is used by multiple drivers, etc.

Obviously this is not for everyone, in fact it might be for almost nobody, but having the option available doesn't hurt either. There are TSB's for so many things that are for oddly specific situations.

    That's probably true too.

If anyone has a 18 or newer BBP AC WITH all the safety stuff they would like to trade for my 17 -- I probably would trade -- I/we have the safety stuff on our 15 Outback and love it. I would have waited to buy a 18 to have the "stuff' but I had a good buyer and price for my 02 F150.

I agree with you on the liability front..

However, when the only option they have is to shut off the system while leaving a light on in the dash is unacceptable for me. I bought a new truck to not have a Christmas tree dash. SO, Figure it out Toyota.

I doubt it will get figured out much more than this from Toyota. Of course they could just completely remove the system if they wanted to - you likely could too - but they'd rather have the warnings on the dash, the sticker they put on the steering column and the customer-signed insert that goes into the owner's manual. Not even sure you can blame Toyota for that, it's just the way things are these days.

Your best bet now is to try to import a 2018-2020 Tacoma from Mexico where they don't have TSS yet, or to buy the appropriate bits and pieces to remove it from a US-spec one.

That would piss me off as well. Didn't realize the warning light was on.

I've said it before but it's worth repetition:

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is one of our favorite features on both my 2019 SR5 Tacoma, and my wife's 2018 Camry XLE. We wouldn't want to disable it on either vehicle.

I LOAAATTHE dynamic (adaptive) cruise control on vehicles behind me. They always seem to be a little bit too close for my comfort zone AND if I can slow way down to encourage them to pass; they just slow WAAAY down instead of just passing me. I tried this with someone semi-tailgating me on an empty highway. I slowed from 65 to 45 on the highway and they just sat on my bumper until I changed lanes. It was like the zombie-car from hell out to get me.

This is happening a little too frequently...reviving old threads.

I've never owned a Toyota with Toyota Safety Sense.

The transition has not been too difficult and my adaption process has not been excruciating to the point where I want to disable it.

Learn to transition into your vehicle and be aware of the technology that comes with it.

Seems like people have been griping about these issues for a while...I haven't been a member HERE a year yet. (Sept 28)

I've had my Sport since May 2021 and so far the experience has been great! (Minus my oil change with the TRD Skid plate) Grrrrr!

Since the thread is still relevant I'm not shy to repost and "revive" again.
I came across the thread hoping to figure out how to turn the PCS dash warning light off after removing my radar sensor from the front grille of my 2021. I have Techstream and was able to keep PCS from coming on each restart, but with the sensor removed I can't figure out how to turn the dash light off. Is there another Techstream setting?
Or.. do I have to remove the dash to pull a bulb? Is there a dedicated bulb?

Isn't there an option to disable them yourself?

I personally wouldn't be without it...I would have hit a guy in the rear end if it was disabled or removed( he started breaking hard..I didn't expect it).......it started beeping real loud and keeped getting louder....it happened real fast...missed him by about 3 ft....

These TSS systems are to support the driver, not to replace their eyes and brains. Rely on it only is not intended.

    Exactly!

I've activated Pre-Collision without intention...the alert definitely reminded me that I was approaching too fast.

It works with an aftermarket vintage grill/garnish! (I'll keep plugging that note every time!) lol

The safety features are nice to have on our Tacomas. It's a learning curve and I've been able to utilize the technology.

Always relevant. The bitching, comes and goes with the haters.

I found out yesterday while wheeling that in order to use the motor’s full output without any interference, the PCS has to be left enabled. I turned off PCS for the first time yesterday to see what would happen, and it still interfered even though TRAC was disabled. That was confusing, but it is what it is. I’m glad I found that out. It was a day of learning the systems for sure.

I’m cool with TSS overall, particularly the sensors on the rear bumper when on trails. Comes in handy when backing up in tight spaces and your head is on a swivel. Beep occurs, stop and check. Good stuff.
