Yeah I know, even with an AeroPress, I can't get a good crema. I don't know how I survive mornings, sometimes.

Just Wow, That's just too much work for Caffeine for me, but I know some people it's like a favorite wine or beer stile.
That is a fine palate you have, you should be a food, wine, coffee, beer taster for a company somewhere.

People lose their minds when they don’t have electricity. At least you had a warning. I was crapping one time and a breaker kicked. No one else was home and I didn’t have a light, not even my phone. Made me wonder...how do blind people know when they are done wiping.

You’ve got that right. Transformer goes out in my neighborhood and everyone is out on their front porches with a flashlight. Humans are strange creatures.

I use well water since I'm up here in the mountains. Run out, I can walk to the crick thru my property. :)
I collect lanterns and stoves, so always have fuel for them.

Seriously. When the power is out, I'm just hanging out doing exactly the same stuff at home I'd be doing with power.

However, this situation really does impact the elderly, people who don't know how to open their garage door w/o a garage door opener , and people who rely on electric medical devices (oxygen concentrators, dialysis machines, respirators, ventilators, cpap, advanced life support systems, etc). With that said, if someone relies on that stuff, they should be making preparations for when the power goes out anyway. If they can't help themselves, there's not much to say after that.

It would be my Coleman stove, the Anvil and a steel plate to "Grind" the beans and I'd be good to go in the A.M.
It may be gritty but it will be Caffeine.

Wildfires are caused by lots of things other than downed power lines. What if a wildfire broke out while the power is out? How will they warn people? My guess here is the the power company is strong arming the state into protecting them from any more financial penalties and any liability from future fires. The grid needs to be updated and can’t be completed by an insolvent power company. In the end, the California taxpayers will foot the bill.

If you have a gas grill you could get a percolator from Walmart for $12. Or just dump some grinds in a pot and cook it a while on the grill and let the grounds settle to the bottom and pour some off the top.

Didn't a law get passed holding power companies responsible whether their lines caused a fire or not?

i mean.. how do they normally warn people when there's a fire?

phones via text/call, news sites, radio, twitter, and LEO.

When people make blanket statements that the grid needs to be updated, they're just thinking that PG&E pours money into a garbage disposal and suddenly the grid gets updated.

Unfortunately, the only cheap way to prevent fires from powerlines in rural areas is to remove rural areas from service. It's a relative shit show in some places because people don't maintain their properties but PG&E still is required to bring service to those areas in some instances. Wind doesn't affect powerlines as much as it blows down trees that break lines.

As we know from GI JOE, lines are active even when they're down.

    #knowingishalfthebattle

the other half is cutting service to rural areas and forcing them to run standalone offgrid setups.
