I have a 2007 Tacoma. Lately, when I shut off the truck and remove the key from the ignition, the doors lock and unlock endlessly, until I put the key back in the ignition. The emergency flashers also come on. When I put the key in the ignition, the doors stop locking and the flashers stop. I've replaced the battery in the door opening FOB, and I disconnected the truck battery for over 15 minutes, and it didn't help.
Has anyone had this happen? What is going on?

It almost sounds like you have water or a short in some place you shouldn't. That's a pure guess though.

I don't have an aftermarket alarm or remote starter.

Does it still do it with the batteries removed from your key fobs?

Sounds like a similar short I had in an ignition. Pop the fuse to the ignition. If doors stop I'd start there.

My issue was on a Subaru not a taco.

Two things I can think of that "could possibly" cause a cycling problem. The Unlock Warning Switch in the ignition cylinder that tells the Body ECU that the key is inserted and the Detection Switch in the door lock mechanism that tells the Body ECU what state the door lock is actually in.

Both are circled in the drawing below:

I'm puzzled by the fact that he said the flashers flash at the same time the door locks are malfunctioning, that would indicate to me that it is receiving or thinks it's receiving a signal from the remote to lock/unlock or am I missing something?

Me, being me, and not always taking the most logical approach would,

    Unplug the wireless door receiver.
Why? To eliminate it as the cause of the signal to Lock/Unlock
Is that the cause? Probably not. But now we know, right?

To the best of my research and knowledge, the visual conformation only works with the wireless remote system.

I missed that in the original post... That could be an important point!

The same thing happens to mine but it’s triggered when I push the unlock button. It’s random and not often. No flashing lights though.

On the door. I don’t have a key fob.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. The truck has a regular key. The fob is only to lock and unlock the doors. I removed the battery from the fob and the problem continued. The doors locked and unlocked rapidly, and the flashers flashed when I removed the key from the ignition. Both things stopped, after I put the key back in the ignition.
I'll look for the ignition fuse and try removing it. Otherwise, I'm taking it to a mechanic next Monday.

Could possibly be a bad cylinder switch in the door(s) or wiring running through the door boot.
