I'm all for legalizing pot... But it's not legal now. For the record I have never done any illegal drug in my lif, but mAny of my friends in hs and college did. Now my job has random drug testing and it's just not worth it.

you say that weed never hurts anyone blah blah blah

chemicals react differently in each person...i've seen people get wound up to the point of violence on weed...ive put people in jail for DWI because they blazed up before getting behind the wheel...and guess what...you just as bad stoned as you are drunk when youre driving

ive seen several wrecks that hurt innocent people because dealers with large amounts in the trunk took off on an officer

how does that NOT hurt people?

You can have all your propaganda and agenda for making it legal...and thats all well and good and the beauty of this country...but that doesnt make it OK to smoke it or sell it or anything else it for that matter...

and how can you say it has NO side effects?

Typical Marijuana Side Effects:

•
• Enhanced cancer risk
• Decrease in testosterone levels and lower sperm counts for men
• Increase in testosterone levels for women and increased risk of infertility
• Diminished or extinguished sexual pleasure
• Psychological dependence requiring more of the drug to get the same effect
• Sleepiness
• Difficulty keeping track of time, impaired or reduced short-term memory
• Reduced ability to perform tasks requiring concentration and coordination,
such as driving a car
• Increased heart rate
• Potential cardiac dangers for those with preexisting heart disease
• Bloodshot eyes
• Dry mouth and throat
• Decreased social inhibitions
• Paranoia, hallucinations
• Impaired or reduced short-term memory
• Impaired or reduced comprehension
• Altered motivation and cognition, making the acquisition of new information difficult
• Paranoia
• Psychological dependence
• Impairments in learning and memory, perception, and judgment - difficulty
speaking, listening effectively, thinking, retaining knowledge, problem solving,
and forming concepts
• Intense anxiety or panic attacks

Those dont sound all that great...i think i'll stay away from it

Oh...and here is the DEA's response to a petition to decriminalization of Marijuana

for the people comparing drunks behind the wheel compared to stoners- alcohol is a legal drug, therefore extremely more likely to be abused. Just about every person I know drinks alcohol. I don't really associate with anyone that smokes week anymore. When I did, I wouldn't want to be in the same car as them, they were so stupid they could easily wreck. jmo.

Just hypothetically speaking IF i smoked weed all the time, i would not experience the red/bolded side effects at all! Just hypothetically speaking of course.:rasta::wink:

everyone is taking this way too far lol im sorry but bottom line the only reason that weed is not legal in america is because the first farmer of tobacco had a choice of whether to grow marijuana plant or tobacco plant, marijuana plant is a painstakingly hard plant to grow which requires alot of care and tobacco is an insanely easy to grow and doesnt take that much care. look it up! if he had chosen weed, tobacco would be looked at in the same way probably worse. GET OVER IT, i dont smoke weed but honest, if it is over a billion dollar industry that our got. isnt taking advantage of it right now its just ridiculous. whatever, its illegal, all you angels tell me you have never done anything illegal in your life and i will be fine with your argument. only reason he is being put in the spotlight is because who he is. I live in towson i know his friends and he is a very driven individual, he has apologized for screwing up and he truly is sorry but this whole legal or not legal thing has got to stop he isnt a pothead yet you tolerate pot heads everyday soo no more hypocrisy! love you guys but damn

here ya go...

I would like to add that I also PREVIOUSLY admitted to doing said substances at an earlier age...i choose to stand on the Legal side of the law now

I also have some very credible sources that saw Mr. Phelps using other means to smoke pot out in downtown Columbia that same evening...this is NOT an isolated event

And i dont tolerate potheads...

its pretty cut and dry. smoking pot is illegal, if you take one hit or multiple. And im sure this was his one and only time taking a hit and he just happened to get caught  get real. he has all the money in the world and is just another punk 23 year old. amazing i never had to do pot, yet managed to get through life. he is, according to many, the top athlete our country has.

as I Said before, I am all for legalizing it. the money the gov. would take in would be insane. although it might lose some of its fun factor because it wouldnt be illegal anymore.

If they had any idea of the amount of cereal I eat when I am baked they would be doubling his endorsement check.

As for driving stoned or drunk its a real no no. I don't brake that personal rule ever.

If it was legalized and controlled we could take out the black market element and it would become like alcohol and tobacco. That would help reduce a lot of the current problems that are a result of its criminalization

actually, i do agree with you on that point. while i dont believe it should be illegal, it is. He did break the law and he was dumb enough to be in public (sorry but a party is public). i personally dont have a problem with weed or people who smoke it, but he did break the law and he knew it.

you know, i use to think the exact same thing! i never really smoked in 26 years. but i abused alcohol to the extreme and it took its toll on my body and my brain. then i discovered that i'm much more pleasant when high and it isn't destroying my body like booze. so now i partake now and again and dont see how it could possibly harm anyone. as for growing up, im 27 so i'm pretty grown up. i have a high paying job and dont live at home. sorry i dont fit the mold :p

Apparently they weren't going to resign that contract anyway. And I'm sorry tigerfan, but I have to respectfully disagree with most of your side effects other then blood shot eyes and dry mouth! Most of the rest of it is just not true. Granted different people will have different reactions, however if they were better educated about these reactions and about what to expect, they would get a better experience. No one has every died as a direct result of marijuana, no one in thousands of years of documented use. The US gov't for years has been publishing lies about marijuana to keep people afraid of it. Most of this pressure comes from huge pharmaceutical companies lobbying to keep it that way, of course they don't want people to be able to grow there own medicine for free, they would loose billions. While were comparing harmful chemicals, lets look at tobacco a legal drug. Cigarettes do cause cancer, they create all kinds of heart conditions, it is highly addictive in fact more addictive then heroin or cocaine, and causes a whole host of other problems. Alcohol, another legal drug, also addictive, causes liver and heart conditions, domestic violence, as well as all sorts of mental and physical problems. Then there is drinking and driving.

I agree you shouldn't toke and drive, but you should also not talk on the phone and drive. I think your missing the point I'm trying to make and that is, so what if science can't find any medicinal quality, to some people for some problems it works. Why can't those people be free to use a medicine that works for them? If you don't smoke marijuana thats fine, making it legal wouldn't effect you much at all, but for the people that do, it means not being a criminal just to get a medicine that helps them.

By keeping marijuana illegal your just padding the pockets of organized crime, and making criminals out of otherwise innocent citizens. By making marijuana legal you take the power from criminals and give it back to the people, if we sold it legally at a store, much like booze or cigarettes. It would be much more difficult for kids to get.

Delmarva, I have a very good job, I do live in my parents basement, but only because I recently sold my house and rent is cheap here! Everything kills brain cells, staring at your computer screen kills brain cells. There is no proof that any effects of marijuana use are long term, meaning when you stop and the drug is out of your system, it leaves no mark.

This has been a very interesting thread, some very good points. The thing is the problem isn't getting any better. More people then ever in the US smoke marijuana, more people then ever in the US are in jail. My question is, how do we make this better? It's obvious prohibition isn't working, somewhere there must be an answer.

Marijuana is very easy to grow, you plant a seed and water it. Its called weed for a reason!
