nope...there is hardly anywhere off limits in PA...

    Places Off-Limits Even With A Permit/License
    Court Houses
    Elementary and Secondary Education Schools
    Casinos
    Detention centers

Bars and restaurants that serve booze are 100% legal to carry to in PA and you can even drink and get drunk(not that i would advise it)

I have carried openly in your state and even in Philly....in fact i recently rode from GA to Philly last year on my motorcycle and carried openly the entire ride except for SC(carried loaded in my tank bag) DC/MD(unloaded per federal law)

Here in the great state of Montana, We cannot carry in federal buildings, schools, bars, or any place that serves alcohol. I have a CCW, but rarely carry, due to situations like this. However, i always have a weapon in pretty close proximity, car, truck, work, nightstand, and nobody ever knows EVER. When i took my six week carry course, (optional) it was really a learning experience and fun as hell. We were taught in said course that the gun what ever it is should never be seen by the public eye, unless you are going to be using it. Even if it sneaks out from under your jacket, it is still a bad deal. Its concealed for a reason, keep it that way unless there is a reason for it to be seen.
Regardless of wether or not you use the weapon, if you unholster it in public, you are going to jail wether you are right or wrong, those are the rules here. So you had better have a damn good reason for doing so, or call your lawyer.
Cops have a tough job as it is, and always seem to be the enemy of the public. Yes there are the few that should find a different career path.

As said above, this situation could have been handled allot better by both parties.

I hate to sound all adult and cliche, but i am going to quote the spiderman movie, "With great power comes great responsibility" i think that is where that came from! :D

this is quite telling... i presume the same mindset transends to such a consideration of armed citizens in general as well...

generally there are no problems, ...i've heard many folks in OH, even in larger cities open carry as they go about, eat at restaurant, etc,... now it's up to the establishment to decide what they will/won't allow (property rights), ..but why go so far as say let's just make it a CPZ (i.e. post gunbuster sign)?.. maybe we should post a sign at the entrance that says "no overzealous cops" instead, ..

Not sure if that was at me, but I was actually on the Jail Guard's side on this one.

    exactly right!

...i'd hate to think we live in a country where "need", as determined by a politician/bureaucrat, dictates how one can exercise god-given rights, spelled out in the U.S. constitution, and often more thoroughly in most all state constitutions.. liberty >> needs-based nanny state...

As a Deputy, I'm not issued a crystal ball to know instantly who is or isn't commiting a crime the instant I look at them. I know it upsets you, but there are times I have to talk to someone to determine what is going on. I have been on many a call when the information on my screen did not match the situation I arrived to.

That aside, from just the video, it looked like it could have been handled better by both sides. The Sgt. didn't have to grab the C.O. by the arm. The situation didn't call for it in MY eyes. I can see how it would have upset the C.O. Still, the C.O. didn't have to jerk his arm away and curse.

I'm all about gun right's and I think more people should take an active part in their safety by carrying. But, I'm not a fan of open carry. There are just too many issues that can come from it.

In a troop of baboons a male baring its fangs is going to draw attention to itself and better be ready to either subdue or submit. We like to think of ourselves as fundamentally different from our simian cousins but at our cores we really are not. Perception of a threat is a threat to most people. Even the uniformed officers who we hire and train to protect us are considered a threat by many people, how much more so someone who walks around armed when the situation doesn't warrant it?

If I see someone with a holstered pistol while out hiking in bear country I will think nothing of it. If I see a bunch of people with holstered pistols eating together in a restaurant I'll probably just figure that they came from a gun show or shooting competition nearby. If I see a single civilian in a crowded area with a firearm I'm going to start thinking of what I'm going to do if he opens fire.

Just because you have the right to do something doesn't always make it the right thing to do.

... ^^^ ... Ditto ... and many of us with PTSD think the same way ... we constantly watch our backs no matter where we are.

... ^^^ ... I have never been a LEO ... but this is my thought pattern also.

Personally ... I have not needed a weapon to survive since the military ... not yet anyways.

how often do you get to pick the time and place you're going to "need" it?... do you only wear your seatbelt when you're going to "need" it?...

Funny , of everybody I know in Canada for the last 43 years , not one of them has needed a gun for personal protection from anything other than bears yet .

good for them! i think you guys are a little bit nicer to one another up there... it's that one time, when you become a cornered cat, ...you'll be "in need"... better to have and not need, ...than to need and not have... ;)
