Kinda proves my point when you bring up one case from 3 years ago

The crazy dude attacked that kid with a huge knife doubt he would have had time to react , conversely one could argue that the crazy dude , if he had a gun , could have killed even more people on that bus .

    I'm done .

I always regret posting anything in these types of threads .

...actually it proves the converse... a demonstrated need, ...hindsight is 20/20, ..and also permanent... in an armed society, the wayward criminal/attacker could run into immediate resistance, ...reducing loss of innocent life.. most are cowards and surrender when someone shoots back at them...

you might want to do a web search on "lubys cafeteria shooting", ..happened in TX - prime example of a wayward madmad w/ a restaurant fulll of cornered cats..

maybe, ...but in one of those situations, at least he would have had a fighting chance..

    I'm done .

    I'm not interested .

You guys are conditioned that you need a gun to be safe , we are not , that pretty much is all there is to it .

ok OZ... i don't think of it as "conditioned", ..but rather we respect the right, and the choice/option... people who are proactive about SD do not allow others to dictate their fate... evil exists, and can spring up spontaneously, ...shit happens, ...we'd rather be prepared for it... ;)

I remember when this happened, the kid had headphones on when he was attacked and did nothing to provoke the attack. the attacker stabbed him repeatedly without warning, 40-50 times as stated in the article. I somehow doubt the victim would have been able to unholster a gun after being stabbed in the chest multiple times.

...for an extreme close quarters situation like this, you could very well be right... no way of knowing, no way to recreate what happened... so, i'm failing to see how your point is in any way a good argument why a free man shouldn't carry...

if they want to start a debate on right-to-carry, ..i'd recommend they do so by starting their own thread on it...

...this thread is for the philly incident..

my point was that having a gun would not have given him a "fighting chance" in this particular situation as you suggested.

    your not kidding dude

situations like this reflect badly on all law enforcement unfortunately.
the cop was shown satisfactory paper work and a cooperative person to deal with i don't see any issue that should have lead to the guy being chocked out in a restaurant.

When crap like this happens it gives everyone, including corrections, a bad name. If you have a badge corrections law enforcement or any other type of law credentials, I see yu as my brother, I need all the back up that I can get when on the street dealing with the peeps that want to hurt us. No need to make more enemy's than we already have.

i don't get it? was the guy open carrying or concealing i didn't think philly had any open carry laws i maybe wrong but, i didn't think so.

if he was printing or some one got a quick shot of his gun they what call the police right away  for all they know the guy is an off duty cop or undercover or just a law abiding citizen exercising his right to carry. either way if there isn't a situation why make one its america people have the right to carry if they choose in certain states. imo the patron who called the police should know his states law a little better regarding these matters.

if i lived in philadelphia i would carry why not the city is a fucking mad house hell certain parts of north philly look like iraq lol.
edit, i can say i don't agree with open carry laws and will agree that yes people don't want to see that shit in the grocery store and when out to eat but, c'mon man this whole situation is pretty bad that cop freaking strangled the guy in front of all those people and his father!

i believe that in PA carry is not restricted in restaurants/bars where alcohol is served - i.e. it's up to the establishment (private property rights)... in fact i went to the nra convention in pittsburgh last year - carried everywhere from sunup to sundown :).. i think open carry is legal in PA generally, but i thought i had heard that there is restriction on open carry in certain cities based on population (like philly) - anyone in PA confirm this?

he was carrying openly...PA is an open carry state. Philly is slightly different in that it is a city of the "first class" meaning over 1 million residents...you have to have a LTCF(license to carry firearms) that allows you to carry in the city openly or concealed, to carry in a car/bike/septa etc. in the rest of PA openly carrying on foot requires no license whatsoever

in philly the license is an affirmative defense to the crime of carrying without a license openly or concealed..

this is what i'm saying as well. you know the guy had to relay the fact that he was a corrections officer to the cop. the last i checked corrections attend the same police academy everyone else does.

even if the guy wasn't le or corrections and he was just some normal guy who was carrying legally this situation should have never happened. its america people carry guns all the time whats the big deal  proper paper work was shown and the guy seemed to be cooperating. the cop in question needs his badge taken away and they need to shift the line up and open a spot for a new guy to join the force.

good info thanks i thought as much though. i can say i'm not hot on open carry laws myself i'm not saying they should be revoked or anything but, if you choose to carry imo do it concealed. it makes you less of a target and keeps the rest of the folks who have never seen a firearm in person calm lol just my .02.
