Well, in fairness to all parties, I would had to have been there myself to really make a judgement call on this. I am all for CCW rights. But it is easy to automatically draw conclusions when one reads an article like this and make judgements based on extremely limited information contained in a small news article written by someone who wasn't there--and someone who relies on the word of mouth of someone else.

What exactly happened and what was said by all parties? Did the guy act like an asshole or was he confrontational? Everyone is assuming just because the guy has a CCW license he cannot do wrong. The guy could be a confrontational sort. Who knows.

It very well could be abuse by cops. Then again, it might not. I just don't know and won't condemn either party based on what I read in a short news clip. It is too easy to overreact to these kinds of stories.

    not in TX.

thats just like, your opinion, man.

for TX there is a 51% rule. if 51% of their sales are derived from alcohol for consumption on that property then you cannot carry there, i.e. the bar. it is legal to carry in a liquor store though since it is not being consumed there.

again, your opinion. You are letting your personal opinion get in the way of what is really going on. A good friend of my wifes got shot while sitting in a coffe shop/book store one night on a very good part of town. You never know when something can go horribly wrong.

If someone is allowed to open carry then by god let them! who are you or anyone else to judge them for exercising their right?

yeah a lot of southern states its illegal to carry to polling locations because they governments wanted to be able to keep people from voting unless they were for the controlling party....

In GA its "illegal" to carry to a polling location too.... concealed is concealed?

Its all opinion, on both sides. Those in favor of OC/CC like to quote fictional statistics about how much safer everyone is with them around. There is no evidence one way or the other that the presence of guns affects crime statistics either way.

Its opinion when those in favor state its their right to carry as protection against the possibility of a government crackdown. Seriously? If the military were used against civilians, do you honestly think the majority of gun owners would stand a chance against military grade weapons? You've been watching Red Dawn too often.

Carrying a gun makes the owner feel safer. It doesn't make the rest of us feel that way. Carry it if you are allowed and feel your life is safer because of it but don't be surprised if incidents like the this one are repeated over and over.

But recognize that the vast majority of us don't feel the need to carry a weapon to lead our every day lives. Honestly, I personally find it sad.

#1) more guns = less crime, by john lott
#2) funny how the cities w/ the most restrictions have the most violent crime
#3) i find it sad you bemoan those who embrace the one right that protects the rest...

if you don't "feel a need" to wear your seatbelt, have a fire extinguisher around, lock your doors, etc - fine, your perrogative, we aren't making you... the difference between those w/ our mindset and those w/ your mindset is liberty - we acknowledge your right/perrogative "not" to partake...

The only one you think you are protecting is yourself. Given the low bar necessary to carry in most states, I have little confidence that most citizens would do anything but make the situation worse.

You mock those who don't share your mind set. I'm not bemoaning those who choose to carry --I just find it sad that you perceive threats to be so great that you have to arm yourself. I think those of us who don't carry are the ones enjoying liberty, protected by professionals who choose to be trained and held to higher standards,

we mock "you"? we're the ones always under attack/scrutiny... putting all faith/trust/power in the hands of gov't, as you suggest, is the antithesis of liberty - your false sense of "comfort/security" is what has led to enslavement of many peoples, even in so-called democracies... big difference between natural rights and those administered by the nanny-state...

It seems like you live your life paranoid of whats going to happen with your gun rights. Sad way to live if you ask me.

why do you find it said that we choose to use our rights? Do you think its sad that people vote, protest, say what they want, go to trial for crimes? Why is this right a "lesser" of a right than the rest of them we have?

again, all opinions that are not contributing one bit.

It all boils down to the Cop in question fucked up...end of story.
