That sounds more normal for custom. Just make sure to heat wrap the new section or build a heat shield for the 4x4 circuitry on the transfer case.

Yeah I don't really understand why the AFE exists. I liked that option until I realized it still hangs under the frame. The Borla install wasn't bad at all. I'm lifted but could have done it stock no problem. Just need a sawzall to make one cut and it's all pnp after that.

This is the best option, avoid header wrap if at all possible on things, it causes more issues than it fixed if you get exposed to moisture or mud regularly.

Good question for @Speedytech7 ... how to handle the heat shield for the transfer case that Borla does include in its kit? Does the shop cover that? I have no metal-fabrication facilities but could contract it.

You could ask the shop to take a farther path around it, 3" of clearance and it wouldn't concern me anymore, plenty of sensitive shit in the enclosed space of the engine bay closer to hot things. Or get one of the little kits from heatshield products, only needs a teeny patch nearest to the actuator/connector.

Tiny section of that stuff tied on like they do in the pictures (half the pipe dia) works super well and avoids trapping moisture.

The shop said "do not worry, we make it right". But a local customizing/racing shop has products like fberglass sheets and "reflectigold" if I want to be paranoid. Getting quotes on such products today.

Saving this for later. The Borla looks nice, but I didn't pay that much for the entire TRD catback.

Scheduled for tomorrow. Will report back, and those who demand pictures can just learn to live with disappointment. :p

Enjoyed reading this. I need to do mine too. I'm a welder and fab'd a new SS "Y" pipe for my '07 Dodge back then. A real pain in the ass without a lift and tube benders. Looks like it's better to just pay someone to do it.

BTW: I used a heat shield wrap on the Dodge...worked like a champ!

I'll need an exhaust shop out near Surprise. Anyone?

Scottsdale Muffler obviously does this all the time, does a good job and is inexpensive. Its not worth driving 30 minutes to have them do it?

    30 mins...no problem.

Currently, on a Sunday with no traffic, it's just over an hour each way. :(

Wades Muffler did my custom exhaust/re-route. Think it was like ~500. high clearance Y pipe back to over the axle + Magnaflow muffler.

I can get that at SDHQ as well for $50-ish. I may even through the man there says he regularly runs all day in the desert under 4WD without issues.
