2022 Tacoma. Iphone 12 overheats when using Carplay (Google maps and podcasts) when connected via USB in the dash. I get a message “charging paused” or something like that.

    Any ideas?

    (Yeah, it’s hot in Texas.)

I doubt it’s the truck. I get that on my phone if it’s in the sun while plugged in with CarPlay. Same if it’s plugged into the wall and I’m streaming a movie.

Maybe try taking a case off and keeping it out of the sun?

Same happens sometimes with my iPhone 12 Pro running CarPlay. Sits in cup holder, so not really much direct sunlight for very long (sunroof shade closed most of the time). I don’t use a case, so at least in my case it’s not insulated.

I just factory reset the phone and haven’t driven the truck much since, so maybe that will help…

I haven’t noticed it heating when in my other vehicles (Audi and Ford) with CarPlay running.

I've had my Android plugged in for hours on Android Auto without issue. It gets slightly warm while charging, but once the battery is at 85% (where I've set it to stop charging to preserve battery life) it cools down.
