I have a new 2019 SR5 and a a new iPhone XS and I’m coming from a 07 Acura RDX. I drive the same route everyday and 98% of my 30 minute trip in the RDX, I have full clear signal and now in the SR5 I have less then 2 bars for probably 50%? Maybe? The technology from 2007 seems to be much stronger then 2019? I’m at a loss and I need my phone while driving. I was pricing some of the boosters and that’s stupid money I don’t have right now. Is there something not connected
Or needs to be adjusted maybe? Anyone else with this issue?

That's interesting because the truck shouldn't have affect your phone signal. Where are you putting your phone when you're driving? If your connected to the Bluetooth, are the bars on the head unit the ones showing you that you have only have two bars or is your actual phone?

Well, it’s Bluetooth yes, it’s either in my pocket or in the cup holder. I will check tomorrow on the way to work and see if the signal on the screen is the same on my phone. I’ve lost several call this week. I can hear them But they can’t hear me. I’ve looked at the screen and there is 1 or 2 bars. I’m devistated if this is hows it’s goimg to be.

Don’t go off the signal displayed on your radio. Check the signal on the phone itself.

How new is your iPhone? Did you use the same phone in your Acura? It seems to me that iPhone signal tends to be weaker than other phones

Have you compared the signal strength on the phone outside of your truck and then inside your truck? I'd be interested to know if they are the same.

Some metalized window tint films can reduce phone signal strength.

The tech on your truck or your Acura has absolutely nothing to do with your cell signal. Nothing.
Now, the actual construction of material of the vehicle might have a very slight effect but not much. The Tacoma is not a Faraday cage lol.

Your cell signal is only between your phone and the closest tower.

Do me a favor... next time you think you only have a few bars of signal, pull over and step outside. Compare the signal. You won't see any difference.

    What carrier you have?
Check for updates. I used to work for Sprint/Ericsson for 20 years and now as RF Eng for all of them. iPhone has the lowest Rx reception and the worst ability to update/upgrade.
Check to see if your ROAMING is activated and turn it off. Also setup the phone for local frequencies such as LTE/CDMA/UMTS and NOT GLOBAL.

Put the phone on the dashboard and drive your route again.
Any other RF devices in your truck other than the radio, ECU and electrical system?

Hold the phone out the sunroof.

I know that at work those with otterbox cases whine the most about cell signal because the case is so damn thick that the signal degrades.

I would suggest a magpul case but they do not make one for your phone...also the reason why i wont upgrade from an 8

the head unit isnt always accurate about signal strength.

And if you are dropping calls its probably entune being garbage than any special cell blocking characteristics of the truck.

That being said i've never had any issues with streaming music with bluetooth or talking on the cellphone via the head unit.

Maybe Toyota is trying to secretly get people to put their phone down (metaphorically if Bluetooth) and drive.
