Recently did a valve cover change on my 3RZ 2.7. Looked pretty clean. Thought I’d share

Also, does anyone know the name of the magnetic(?) tool that helps you take out the valve shims for when doing the valve clearances?

Post up on bobistheoilguy.com. Those guys will want to know all of the details about what oil/filter/change interval you went by.

I couldn’t tell you. I’ve never done it, or paid anyone to do it.
I would consider trying it myself, if had a different truck to drive during the downtime.
Of course, I do have resources such as my father who was a mechanic for years, to help if I need him too. And I’d kind of like to learn to do it.

It seems pretty straightforward, just time consuming and detailed.
You need to take good measurements and get the right shims.

about $300 - 500.. Gets kind of easier after the first 3 I imagine. Still though, a chore indeed, and necessary for the later lifespan of the 2.7

Literally just changing the oil every 6-7k miles. I use the Purolator full synthetic filter & Walmart brand Super Tech high mileage 5w-30 full synthetic

    Nice. Ya looks clean.
You should get an oil analysis done at Blackstone labs. I do mine every other oil change or so. It's $20 or so.
    Mine at a similar mileage

What a clean machine. Why'd you take off the intake/exhaust manifold? I noticed because I just had flashbacks to painful memories of replacing the fuel filter

Replaced the cylinder head because of this burnt exhaust valve. What happens when previous owners don't maintain their vehicle and do the required valve shiming

I had a local Sacramento shop quote me about 1,100-1,200 worse case scenario if all shims had to be replaced

i pulled and dissembled my engine at 297k.. strict diet of mobil 1 extended performance and toyota filters since my father bought the truck new. 15k oil change intervals (was all highway). only reason i pulled the engine apart was due to rust on the block preventing supercharger install.. that was a mistake because now the whole trucks getting a restoration and i ended up buying new heads and everything.. could of still been driving the sucker for longer!

these are pictures fresh out of the engine. didnt clean them or anything... good oil and a toyota means you'll be running forever (unless the rust gets to it first!)
