the 4Runner looks so much better with the 2001-2004 Tacoma front end.

Let's get back to talking about shells though.

Looking for recommendations. I picked up a Snugtop Supersport in great shape except for a few small scratches on the rear passenger corner. My truck is white and the shell is silver and I was planning on having it painted white for ~ $400. Last week an old white shell popped up for sale locally so of course I had to check it out and I ended up buying it. In my haste to sell my silver snugtop I learned it’s the top of the line model and runs around 3,100 brand new. The white one I just bought doesn’t even have any badging in it. I don’t know what brand it is. It’s definitely not as nice as the snugtop. It doesn’t have recessed glass but it does have this weird flange that hangs down a little bit and actually covers the top of my truck bed where the snugtop sits on top of the bed. Any idea the manufacturer? It looks good. Also curious if I should just keep the snugtop and paint it cause it’s super nice. Just don’t want to drop a bunch of $ on a shell but I guess I already have bought two haha. Anybody looking for a shell??

... but it's not brand new and it isn't 2003 when it was made. This shell is OLD and only worth something to those of use that had one of the 4 years of short bed, 1st gen Tacoma's made. From what I've learned watching the market is that the price fluctuates and the Snug top you have is worth about $400-500 to the right person. As-is. You will NOT recuperate the money you spend repainting it, you will only appreciate it while it matches your truck. If you plan on keeping it for a while, go with whichever shell you like the fit of better. In the end, they are both made of fiberglass and paint and glass and metal. This isn't rocket science and they don't vary much in construction. For the hassle, I would say your best bet is to list both of them and sell whichever one sells first. If you're "stuck" with the silver Snugtop, then decide if it's worth painting to match (I wouldn't).

@TacomaNick74 - P.S. There is a white Snugtop for our trucks local to me and I have a silver truck. If it is THAT big of a deal to have a matching shell and you want to drive down here, I'd acquire it and trade with you. Similar condition with a few nicks in the gelcoat/paint and top of the line with carpeted interior and everything.

If you want color matching just get it brand new, it is super RARE to find the one you want in used condition. I've tried. I was close to picking up a snugtop but it was red, didn't care. I did care about the rear glass being broken though but that one slipped through my fingers.

@JasonLee thanks for the info. I’m into both my shells $500 total. I know I’ll probably sit on one of these until the right buyer is looking. I have options which is good!

I just purchased a 1st gen double cab and am having a heck of a time finding a camper shell for this thing. i don't want to buy new because of $ and i really don't care about color matching for the forseeable future. @TacomaNick74 is your's still for sale?

A lot of people have commented in this thread. Who are you asking, @LazyEye ? I'm near Denver, CO and will have a Gold Snugtop XTR for sale in the spring if you are interested.

after i hit publish i realized my mistake. thanks. i was supposed to have quoted @TacomaNick74, since He was saying he had two shells and was trying to figure out which one to sell. @JasonLee is your snugtop a fit for a 1st gen double cab?

I would be interested especially since it already has that integrated roof rack. Is the top reinforced to allow larger load capacity? I'm in Texas, near Fort Worth but I've got family there in CO, and I'll be passing through there next year in the summer some time.

The million dollar question...how much are you asking for it?

I’ll see when the time gets closer. I’m continuing to put money into it while I am using it like having a piece of glass custom cut to replace the missing sliding window from when I acquired it.

Dont break any of the glass as it's very pricey and they don't sell them anymore.

Spare parts are available. Before I bought my used shell, I checked with the local SnugTop dealer and got a list of all the part numbers and prices for the glass replacements. They are just really expensive. For example, they will only sell the entire back window assembly, not just the center square of glass. $300 for non flip down, $400 for flip down (what I have).
