Ran over something on the interstate last month - no idea WTF it was, but for the remaining 50 miles it took me to get home I watched as my left front tire's PSI slowly dropped. I was hoping I could drive it to work and get it fixed the next morning, but by the time I showered, dressed for work, and left the house again it was flat AF. Next morning - had AAA send a guy with an on-board air compressor, he took 10 minutes to inflate the tire, and I drove it to my local (half mile away) Mr. Goodwrench/Goodyear shop, who fixed it for free and had me back on the road in less than an hour.

I do have some shuddering at highway speeds now, though, and I wonder if they rebalance the tire when they patch or plug it?

check the cold PSI of the tire in question might be overfilled with air, when the tire heats up it increases the PSI more also

    It's complicated.
I read your reply about everyone chiming in that the tire can be patched, and that that's not what you asked... but at TW; in for a penny, in for a pound.

But for anyone reading this thread, for future reference, the above statement "it's too close to the sidewall to patch" is completely untrue.

It is correct that a SIDEWALL puncture cannot be patched--but in THAT photo, the object is well within the tread area, and not anywhere near the sidewall of the tire.

    As you were.

You can definitely plug and patch that. I think the rule of thumb is an inch or 2 from the edge is when tire places won't repair your tire.

Well if you read I said in my experience.... I tried to have a shop patch in almost the exact same place on one of the other tires and it wouldn't seal. I watched the guy do it a second time because I didnt believe him.

I live about an hour away from Tire Rack HQ in South Bend, so they are always my go to. Actually just picked up a set of Blizzak WS80s for my wife's car, they are clearing them out for the new WS90s

get a plug kit and double plug it DIY when the tire guy says replacement is the only recourse don't believe it, I double plugged my Dunflop about 1/2" from the edge at 65k miles finally it developed a slow leak.

Sorry if I misunderstood your original post. I have had BFG's in the past and have been quite happy with them. Sorry I have no experience with the Goodyear tires though.

From my experience I've found the kits where there is a plug AND a patch work the best.

worth its weight in Gold, most tires places even with a warranty wont plug or even repair a tire they consider is too close to the edge of the tire. tire schmo wants:spending: for a new tire

I have worked construction many times during down times in the economy and plugged that same type of hole many times with cheapo rope style repair that lasted until the natural end of tread life.

That said, let your wife know it can only be “safely” fixed with a kick ass lift, wheels and full set of bad ass tires...honey.

Yeah, he was in the business of selling you a new tire or tires. He deliberately "gun-decked" the repair, to make it look like it wasn't fixable.

Places with a tire warranty will just replace your tire if the nail is too close to the sidewall....best 15 bucks i spent on each tire, my wife has gotten 2 nails too close to the edge already...

I'd like to ask the OP:
What if you were out in the middle of somewhere, with no cell reception, and you had to rely on yourself and your patch kit (assuming you have one) to get you driving again: would you have the ability, know-how, and confidence to patch THAT tire yourself? Just curious.

Should be fixable unless the screw or bolt went to the sidewall and caused damage. Most places now use a plug patch combo works really good.
