So guys I am trying to figure out which one these 3 way door speakers to buy for my front doors of my 06 Tacoma Access cab. I have a JVC KD-R775S Head unit and I am trying not to run an amp to the front speakers if I really don't have to. So my main question is, will these speakers hit harder, better bass ETC than our typical OEM speakers with no amp? And also which one would be the better choice, I think I am leaning towards the rockford fosgate but would like some input from the audio side of tacomaworld first. Thanks everyone!

In my 02 DC I'm running these and they sound very nice

I put in some kicker 6x9's 3-4 months ago, very happy with them so far. Still have the stock head unit and it still makes a huge difference.
In my base model 2010 the stock speakers were garbage, anything will make a noticeable difference. I can finally hear the radio/music on the highway without going past vol. level 40.
Check these out, i think they're a pretty good deal. You could pick em up at best buy today. Don't bother getting the wiring harness, i didn't end up using it and returned it.

Thanks for another speaker idea Greg. But you see, i still have my stock speakers in front and rear doors and with the stock head unit i could shake all my mirrors and people actually thought i had a 12" sub hidden somewhere. After i put in a new head unit the bass response of the rear speakers dropped drastically. So i am wondering will a 3 way speaker be better with the JVC head unit than my stocks or will it sound underpowered. Is it the stock head unit making the difference here?

Did you have the factory JBL system? Those came with a sub behind the rear passenger side seats... if you are shaking all your mirrors with a stock system then what was the problem? Most people are complaining about not being able to hear the music, or it lacking in bass.

The new JVC headunit pushes more power to your speakers than what your old HU did so if you get some speakers with a high sensitivity then you should be good. Look for speakers that want about 40w RMS. Generally some cheap Alpine, Kicker, Rockford Fosgate speakers should do fine.

With the new headunit, you probably lost that sub because you are not connected to the factory amp... if you had the JBL system. That would explain why you lost all your bass.

Also check out the Alpine power pack. Its a cheap/easy option to add some power to your speakers....

I was not aware an access cab from 06 (TRD OFFROAD PACKAGE) could have the JBL options? I thought that was double cabs only, i also wouldnt know because im the second owner. And i upgraded because i wanted to get a usb port on the front for phone charging and music etc. I also put a small powered sub behind my drivers seat. So you are saying that my new JVC headunit should push these more power? THANKS!

Heres is the stats of the rockford fosgates, they are saying 6-60 watt rms.

I run the same rockfords in my DC w/o an amp, they hit fairly hard... But they would be super crisp and bassy with an amp.

i didnt do much research into which model truck you had. If you have an access cab then you probably do not have a factory sub.

Now with the new head unit you have.... your after market HU will push 22 watts rms to each speaker where a factory HU is typically between 8-15 watts RMS, so yes the new HU should push more power. But the factory speakers were designed around the factory HU, that is why they sounded better.

That is why it is usually recommended to get an amp when you upgrade your car audio.

I replied to this post without realizing who posted it. I'm enjoying the Avid light bar, and i did end up putting a 25in light bar on it. I still cant believe the difference it makes.

As far as the speaker stuff goes, i'll be the first to admit I dont know that much about the topic. I was worried that my kicker 3-ways would seem underpowered with the stock head unit, but it sounds great.
I tend to think that any aftermarket speakers will make a noticeable difference. You may want to consider getting an amp to go along with your JVC head unit. I tried to find the factory head unit specs but came up short. Just remember to not use peak power ratings, use the RMS rating when making calculations. Peak is where the speaker/system will fail i've heard.

I damn i didnt even notice it was you dude  Glad you are enjoying the avid light bar, the Hi lift has already come in handy quite a few times as well. But also, if i was to get an amp how do i run it to power the speakers with it? And how big of an amp would i need to power the rockfords?
