Picking up cap - what prep?

    I may pick up a Leer cap tomorrow for my 2013 SB. The cap is used and on another truck. The plan is to remove it from his truck and place it on mine.

    Is there any prep that I should do to my truck? Or is it as simple as it sounds?

    I have never had a cap.

    Get this for the front of shell to bed seal.

    A tube of black silicon also to seal the corners where they angle up to the side plastic caps.
    Lift the caps slightly and shot some sealer under and run it to that ESI front seal and it will not leak then - without it sure will.
    The front seal is glued to the bed front as its almost impossible to line it up if you glue that to the shell.
    Make sure the position on the bed is correct so the rear window lines up properly and closes over the tailgate. Its obvious when you have it sitting on there.
    Shell under the sides any thin 1" wide flat type seal will work glue to the shell rails.
    To help get it on and in correct position four 2x4 pieces or similar between the shell and bed lets you position and not get crushed fingers, then right location pull them out and clamp it down. With only 2 guys this really helps.

    Thank you all for input - my plan is before I go remove side rail caps and seal around holes with silicon caulk then replace. Install front rail seal.
    Bring a roll of cap seal.
    Maybe after we remove cap I can remove his old cap seal, install fresh to cap, and then cap to my truck.

    Happy with the fit and look. I need to figure out and do the work of wiring the third brake light and interior LED. May still need to tinker with the door latch and locking mechanism but it locks as it should. The locking Thule cross bars have been removed unless and until I need them. Will monitor for leaks and tune that as needed. Thank you all again for ideas.
