Some mods will affect warranty consideration but not all. If for example you put in LED head lights, they can't deny warranty on the rear end. As it goes, they must substantiate that the mod was responsible or contributed to the failure. I can see this might be a bit touchy with suspensions and major mods to the power train, but most minor mods aren't going to void the complete warranty.

Get Gap from your auto insurance.. super cheap compared to dealer bs

Only thing you should come out of the paying is the tax, title and fees. Nothing more.

Congratulations! Which dealership did you buy it from? Which color? Did you use Truecar or any other similar type of program?

I’ve had mine since July. Off Road MT, no tech or upgrade packages. I went through Costco, which saved me about $3300 off of MSRP and a 1.9% interest rate without needing to negotiate. I also got KBB value for my old wrx. I chose to purchase in addition:

    1. Extended warranty (7y/125k mile) for $1600. Peace of mind to me. Something has always broken on my vehicles that more than pays for it. Plus it came with 2 additional years of free maintenance on top of the default 2 years.

    2. Colorado protection package. $1600. It has clear bra and ceramic tint which are the only additions I wanted above stock. But it added free windshield replacement due to rock chipping for 5 years. The salesman said exactly what I’ve seen on here for replacement cost, $1200. I live in Colorado and practically everyone drives with busted windshields so even if I only replace it once, that almost pays for the whole package.

I definitely don’t feel bad about my decisions because I went it knowing exactly what I wanted, and the sales guys were nice and did not push anything at all. Especially when I was clear and polite about what I wanted.

Also, I don’t think the words “gap insurance” were ever said

$50K for a Pro? Seems a little high.

I don’t have the details and it sounds like it’s too late now but I thought the same thing. If he paid MSRP I guess.

I’m thinking if buyer is concerned with financing and other financial issues, should buyer be purchasing a PRO.

He said out the door with extras. So that was tax tags and what ever extras he bought with it.

I was similar to a lot of people here. I declined the extended warranty and told them politely that nothing was going to change my mind so I didn't want to waste our time.

They tried to get me to pay for the carpet floor mats stating they were already in the truck and came from the factory. I told them it was fine to take them out as I did not want them if I had to pay for them. After I signed everything and went to leave the salesman told me he just left them in there as they had no use for them.

Just stick to your guns and be polite. Go in knowing what you do or don't want as far as extended warranties etc. and don't let them get to you. In my experience when I was firm but polite it worked out well and the actual finance part was pretty painless.

I knew going in that I wanted the Toyota 8 year 125k extended warranty so I did my homework and shopped around prior to the day of purchase, was able to take my quotes with me and get the finance department to match the best price. Know what you want prior to going in so that they can't blindside you with anything.

    Too few to list.
From what I know, consumers used to be able to buy the Toyota extended warranty from any Toyota dealership that offered it including out of state dealerships. Toyota did away with out of state sales and now only dealers from the same state can offer extended warranty. I remember speaking to one of the dealer guy here that sold the extended warranty from out of my state for a little above cost and he explained all this to me. IIRC, I was looking at the 7 or 8 year and it was less than $1K then.

I paid $700 for the 7 year on a 2007 FJ. I was able to do so because I told them I had already negotiated that price with another dealer.

They asked if I would purchase from them if they matched it, I told them I preferred to purchase individually, and they threw in a year of maintenance to close the deal . I did the same thing this time but upped my offer to $1050 ajusting for inflation and my assumption of cost increase due to the technology/complexity.

To make my sales guy feel better I told him that I led with my best offer and nothing he could have done would have changed that that was my walk away price and I congratulated him on getting the deal to work.

Different topic but has anyone actually used ext warranty? I’ve never (purposely) bought one. Just figured I’d never use it. Especially since I end up trading so often.
