The cold dehydrates you pretty quickly, always ensure you are properly hydrated!

Last minute trip idea with a buddy in his 200 series LC to Bohemia Mines outside Cottage Grove, Oregon. Didn't make it all the way - got into some snow that was up to our bumpers with no previous tracks and was a little more than we were looking to get into today. First time going up that way and plan on doing it again soon with a little more preparation and time!

A great area, I used to hit that drive up all the time back in the mid 90s when I moved to Oregon from Hawaii, 2WD Nissan. .....loves the Bryce Creek Mt Bike trail

I will have to check that out! There is a lot up in that area and I will probably be back up there quite a bit over the next couple weekends to look around.

Figured I would resuscitate this thread. Took a trip to the Malheur/Owyhee area this past week.

Skull Creek Rd. south of Rome. @turbodb found your hydraulic cattle guard and the west road to Three Forks Hot Springs.
On the road down to the hot springs. Ate someone's sidestep. On a side note, I recalled this route from one of @turbodb 's trip reports. What I forgot was that he wrote this road was technically closed. However, Gaia maps showed public land here. No closure signs either. This of course doesn't always tell the whole story. In the end I decided to venture down. NOT recommended, as I wasn't sure whether I would make it back up or not.
Here is the final descent to the gravel bar near the hot springs. Suicidal, even if you can't quite tell from the pic.
The other approach to the hot springs was easy, but there was no place to set up a camp if you didn't have an RTT. Late in the afternoon, I decided to get the hell back up and out. On 32's this was a rough ascent. Needed locker and ATRAC to manage it. When the USGS topo map labels a road "Jeep Trail", take note.
Got down to Three Forks at about 8:15 pm without issue. Next morning I decided to take the east side road to the hot springs. Mostly ok except for the last couple hundred yards had a bit of a pucker factor.
Here is the approach down to the river from the east side. Again, you cant really tell how steep and off-camber it is.
Here is the hot springs area on the west side.

Just want to reinforce the notion of making sure you confirm private/public ownership before you venture out. Don't take second hand internet info or mapping apps as gospel. Consult the relevant land manager directly if in doubt.

All this Rainier talk and I can’t help but throw in my only pic relating to the theme

I’ll throw in an oldie section 2 BDR pic to stay relevant too. A few things have changed on the truck since then though, I need to get back out and take some more serious shots
