    I've never understood the mentality of keeping recipes close. If someone is that good of a cook a recipe becomes guidelines not prescriptive directions.

    There are many different schools of thought when it comes to seasoning cast iron. Just do your own research. I use Crisco because the smoke point is higher than a lot of oils.

    No... I think u want something with a higher burning temp. I usually use canola or veg oil and then wipe it out and turn it upside down in the oven on 300 or so for an hour (not really a summer time job) but deep frying foods in it helps too. The best thing to do is to use one and use it often and it will wear in after a while.

    Those weren’t even the best ones. They were hanging in the kitchen soo long when I took them off the wall you could see the shadow of where they were.

    That is a lot like Aunt Peg's cornbread recipe. The melted butter in the skillet with the mix poured into it is the key!
