The cast iron bug bit me a few years ago. I've purchased only two pans, one being a 10" Stargazer skillet which I really like. The others I have brought back from a rusty condition and continue to use almost daily. I'll never buy another non stick pan.

Wait a minute, Lodge says soap is fine. LOL

Honestly, I have never found it to be a big deal one way or the other. Soap isnt going to remove oil that has polymerized onto a skillet or pot. I only mention it because I have heard people say someone ruined a skillet with soap, never found it to be true, and for a lot of years I just used salt, a little water and a cloth. Then a friend who is a heavy user of cast iron asked me who in the heck told you soap would ruin it. So I asked my 80 year old mother (this was 20 years ago) who told me she always used soap, just re-oil before you put it away. So I tried it and lo and behold the world didnt end. I really cant tell a difference. Much like what oil you use, it doesnt matter if you just pick the temp thats best for what ever oil you decide.

I would never tell someone to change what they are comfortable doing, but I believe a lot of common knowledge may in fact be wives tales. I would tell you you might try comparing different ways, then you know for sure if other ways work. All rivers lead to the ocean kind of thing.

Happy cooking, a lot of good looking stuff on this thread

I am not so worried about old school "soap" removing seasoning. I am a bit worried about new age detergents embedding and being difficult to rinse off and imparting flavor.

I also don't worry because I don't need soap. Dry salt and chain mail is killer OR wet chain mail for some sugary matrix.

The shirt is a gag item, a joke if you will. I don't care what YOU use.:D:p

Nice haul! Could probably easily get over $100 for each of those.
