hey Barrett, i have a lift already but just have not put up pics yet, truck is dirty... i got billies, 5100 f+r and a custom add a leaf from a truck suspension shop locally. i do have a vibration though. i am still trying to solve it... hopefully soon. truck looks great, just wanna make it drive the same!not sure if i am gonna bother with bigger tires since i do mostly highways. lift looks bigger with more wheel gap!!

gotta get some rims and winter tires for next year some time.

wheels should be balanced and the truck was aligned at a toyota dealership by a guy with 20+ years with toyota. i do have stock sport trd rims.

the vib started after i put the lift on. xmas night i hit a curb down the road from my place. screwed the front passenger rim. later discovered i bent the subframe a bit. where the lower control arm bolts to the frame, about 3/8" back. so i took it to a shop to get that fixed on the frame alignment rack, no big deal. drive to the shop to get the lift put on. driving to the dealership for the alignment i notice the vib!!! alignment helps alot but not all of it. so i go back to the shop i got the lift installed and he tried spacing the carrier bearing, that helped a bit. also spaced under the rear leaf pack.

so far i have got nothing else figured out. my mechanic has read the thread in the 2nd gen section "fixed my vib for free" gonna try figuring out my angles and what not...

haha no offense taken by any means! i am lucky to learn some stuff from my mechanical friends. hoping to have time week to check it out. its kinda nice that i dont put many km's on it, walk to work... so i am not causing to much damage to the bearings and other parts

Sound like you've got it covered, Bill. I hope I didn't offend with the suggestions. Just my experiences. You sound like you know a hell of a lot more than I do about mechanics in general, so no disrespect intended.

I hope you and your mechanic figure it out as vibrations can drive a person nuts... I know.

I'll ask my mechanic for any suggestions after explaining your story. Couldn't hurt.

well, went to check the angles and shimmed the back side of the leafs. importunately i learned that i need a wheel bearing on the side i hit the curb on. so i need to replace that then i can see if i have any other vibrations. here are some pics of my truck since i got to clean it on this wicked day!!

Bartlett...what year? SR5 with 6 speed...i noticed you said the lift is for TRD...you must have added the fogs yourself. 3 or 4 leafs in rear spring..looks like a good deal on the kit...is there an AAL in the rear or a block

lots of great looking trucks. we have different options in canada as far as trim packages. im looking for a dcsb trd off road. i guess ill have to spend my money in the states.

am i the only canadian that wants a dcsb in auto? lol

It's a 2009 SR5, 6 speed, yes. The lift is for NON-TRD. It says it on the box even. It is vehicle specific. Sorry, if I said it was for a TRD. I did put the fogs in myself. The dealer wanted $1200 as an option!!! (I KNOW!!!) I went to a wrecker, found a Taco with fogs, bought a fog light switch and a relay. Total $354.00. My taco was pre-wired for fog lights, so I installed the lights (the connectors were zip tied right beside the fog housings behind the bumper) installed the relay and popped one of the plastic inserts to the left of the steering wheel (the wiring was zip tied right there) and hooked up the switch. Took me 10 minutes (not including aiming the lights). The rear lift is a 1 inch block that comes with the kit. The front is a 3 inch lift with diff drop included.

Thanks for the compliment on the truck! Anymore questions, just ask!

Couple more questions...the 1 inch block is enough to level it??
You have no vibration problems...thats my big concern...guess i have to take the chance!
Just priced at my local shop today installed approx $700...now to decide whether to order and install on my 07...or replace the truck with a 12 and install on that!! decisions, decisions!!

Thanks, yeah she sure has come a long ways lately.

No idea on a winch yet, still doing a bunch of research and also saving up to get a house so upgrades to the truck are sitting on the back burner. If I do come across a good deal or just break down and get one will be when I get a winch.

depending upon how things go in the next little while (with the savings) the plans are:

CB/HAM Radio
Winch
Air Locker
Bed cage and RTT

When we going to see you again? or are you selling your soul in the oil patch?

I just got full time in Vulcan so I'll be doing that 4 on 4 off. So I should be around more often. Your after the rtt too huh?

Yes, the 1 inch block levels the truck nicely. The first link is the kit I got for my truck; 2.75-3 inch front and 1 inch rear. The link explains everything about ride height, the difference between the kit for an SR5 and a TRD and anything else you might be interested in. My truck gained the full 3 inches in the front and rides like stock.

The second link is for another kit. The front is the same (2.75-3 inch), but the rear is a 2 inch block. This will, obviously, lift the rear more if you like a slightly higher rear end (more like stock rake angle).

Vibration problems: I ran the truck after the lift with the stock Dunlops and with Ice/Snow tires, both on city and highway with zero vibrations. I swapped my stocks for 17X9 aftermarket rims and 285/70/17 (33's) and had no problems for the first 3000kms. At 3000kms, I DID get a vibration in the steering wheel. I will save you the long, sordid details of my 3 months of hell dealing with it. Short version: the shop that did the lift SAID that they did an alignment after the lift and CHARGED me for an alignment, but they didn't do the alignment and it cupped my new tires. Tire Warehouse is the shop and I've had nothing but trouble with them. The last time I brought my truck in to have the wheels balanced (it wasn't a problem with the wheels, it was the NON-alignment they didn't do) they scratched all four of my new rims and painted over the scratches with black paint, then accused me of trying to scam THEM for new rims. NEVER use Tire Warehouse, EVER!

Anyways, I took the truck to Toyota and they diagnosed the problem with the alignment. Toyota has been doing lifts and oversized tires for years and have come up with the best alignment set-up for Tacoma's through trial and error. I will send you the specs of my truck and you can use them when getting your alignment done. Remember, though, I have a different set up with rims/tires/offset, so it could differ unless you go with the same set up I have. Regardless, I'll send it to you, just in case.

An alignment MUST be done after installing this lift. Get your shop to give you a copy of the specs for your truck before and after.

If your truck is stock, I believe you will have;
245/75/16
Backspacing 4.5
Offset +30 (wheels tucked under fenders)
16X7
Hub centric 106mm hub bore

I have;
285/70/17
Backspacing 4.5
Offset -12 (wheels sit farther out of the fenders)
17X9
Hub centric 106mm hub bore

Check with your tech to see how much of a difference this would make to your alignment, if any. I am not a mechanic. I would rather send too much info (and you can toss it), than not enough.

Now, after Toyota did the alignment, I still have zero vibrations. With the size and width of my tires, I do feel the road feedback through the steering wheel and the truck "tracks" the ruts in the road more, BUT that is NOT a lift issue, it's a tire size/offset/width issue and it's almost imperceptible.

Thanks for that good info...my tires are 265/70/16 FS Destination A/T on stock rims for summer...and a 265/75/16 on OE steelies in winter. My tire shop will do install and alignment...I know them and trust them. My truck is 1-1/2 inches high in the rear....maybe a 2inch bloc if I want to keep the same rake.
