ya the "ex" is an asshat. he tries to "copy" me with the mods i do to my truck. then goes around telling people i copy him, when in reality everyone laughs in his face because they know how much i love my truck, and how long i have been modding it.

to 2004taco, you shouldnt have any problems towing your bikes, i tow my kodiak 4x4 and my 2 bikes, with no issue.

paintdiddy, do you have any pics of your old truck. would love to check em' out.

thank you all for the compliments. any one have any suggestions?

I just finished it. 3" toytec, 16x8 procomp wheels and 265/75 mt's. I wish I went with the 285's.... But I'm happy that my gas mileage didn't change!

Hola. Im new here, but not new to Tacos. The 03 below is my 3rd Taco. Had a 2000 X-Tra cab, the I bought a dealer-new 04 Pre Runner X-Tra cab 2WD. I added 3" Toytec lift kit and 285's. I also added 150,000+ happy, worry free miles to it before a kid pulled out in front of @ 40mph and my truck was totaled. The OP truck was 01 Taco 4wd XTRa cab (kinda weird, both Tacos...). I also had 3 Toyota 4wd's over the tears too (82, 83, 85, solid axles rule!). They all had Rancho 3" lifts and 33's The 82 had dual ft shocks and a Downey locker in frt. I like the 85 the best though. Was orig owner on that one too.
Sunday I picked up this 03 2WD Pre-Runner. Nice, low miles (79K) never hit, never painted. All body parts OG, 'cept the billet grill. Just has the funky Trailmaster 6" lift, with King 2" Coliovers. I researched the TM Kit and knew going in its a funky-as-hell design, w/no UCA's and the 2nd strut chinga-dera is prone to going bad. I did find there is a replacement strut (for 91 VW Jetta) thats works w/minor mods. Anyways, I may either get rid of the drop bracket, add TC UCA's. Or change to the Pro Comp kit w/UCA kit?? I know, Kinda bass-ackwards. I dont really romp my trucks hard off road anyway. I live in the desert, but mainly use my truck for hauling my bikes, camping and stuff like that. I also have a beater 92 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 4x4 for real 4-bying/2nd car.
This is good site with a lot of good info, and cool peeps. Good thread, nice Tacos. Lets see more NFG trucks.
Heres my new (to me) 2003:

6" Lift w/2" King coilovers/Bilsteins rear. Im gonna lose the front wheel spacers and see how it goes...dont like the front end so wide.

    both those trucks look sharp.

coolidge, i think your chrome grille painted to color match(white) would look amazing, even if you wanted to go the next step and paint your flares color matched. that would look pure sex.

I'm new, right? Here's my "new" 2002 DC Tacoma. Opted for it instead of my 2009 DC OR Taco. I just like the 1st gens better, they're better for what I want to build & do with it…

Nothing too special, not even TRD, but they're expensive & hard to come by. Found this one on a steal and since I want to lock it front & rear, TRD isn't so important. Other plans, other plans.

It's got a Fabtech 2.5" Dirt Logic Coilover setup, shod with BFG M/T'S, 32x10.5 equivalents. I want 33" on there, but was unsure what I'd really have to cut up since there's lots of conflicting information on it. I've got 3" of lift in the front and even with 32"s I have some rub if I hit an incline at speed with the wheels arced slightly, so I'm using the 32"s to 'feel out' what I'll need to take care of to fit 33"s comfortably.

Here's a pic of it pretty much stuck halfway over a dune. Good flex picture opportunity, and hell it was a great real-world training opportunity for the woman ("THIS is why we're getting lockers for it"), but took 20 minutes to unstuck it; mostly time finding brush & logs we could heave over to create some traction.

I was going to lift the '09 6" but it seemed like a waste. the native ground clearance of the 1st gens coupled with the 400lb weight savings + narrower track meant I could put a mean 3" lift on it with some 33" eventually, and have a better trail rig for less $$.

I have the front ARB locker sitting in my laundry room waiting for his brother the rear ARB locker so they can party in my axles. Plans also include demello sliders (I like that they're tucked up high for better clearance), an All-pro Front & rear bumper along with some of their slider plates, and a safari rack on top of the cab. Plus a re-gear for the 33" tires too.

If all goes well it'll be complete by the end of the year. Hey, I am impatient :D
