Try and take them kind of angled if you don’t mind, not facing directly at the garnish. Trying to get a feel for how they’re “supposed” to look when installed properly. Thanks!

This! Right there, what you’ve got! Just like that! This is what I needed to see...and I think I know why...

When I got my garnish in the mail, I opened it up a bit hurriedly, and felt something snap. Turned out to be a wee thin little plastic tab at the top, right between the 2 pins that push through the top of the sensor pocket in the grille. Damned little tab was so thin, I was thinking it was possibly molding flash or something. I disregarded it, and went on about my business.
It bothered the hell out of me, that the top of my garnish sat hugely recessed into the grille pocket, versus the bottom. In my mind it should at least be even, if not flush.
I’m now thinking, that the irritating and far too small little tab, acts as a spacer against the top of the sensor, keeping the garnish even at the top and bottom.

    Thanks for posting the pic!

That tab you're talking about actually has a slot in the grille that it slides into. Don't ask me why. It may serve to align it in some way but it can't really keep it flush because if you put it against the grille and not in its slot the garnish will be angled down.

You’re right on all counts...I think it protrudes through the grille rests against the frame of the sensor itself.

I only know these things because mine was missing the lock washers when I bought the truck. I took it back and told them how to fix it. That's how they gave it back to me. If I had it to do again I'd probably just use some rubber washers so I could adjust the angle better. Those things aren't coming off now though.

That’s exactly what I’ve been considering! I’ll be sure and post pics when I go through this (hopefully this weekend or next week sometime).

You could put them on both sides of the posts. Like some inside to act as a spacer and one outside to hold the garnish tight as you would with the star lock washers. That way you could easily remove it if you wanted to.

I don't know man. There was a 19' pro on the floor when I bought mine and that's how i proved to them that mine was missing something. They didn't believe me so I told the service manager to grab a mirror and look at that one. He saw the washers on the 19' and not on mine. But the garnish on that one was flush and tight. Two things which mine is still not.

@ToolPac here’s what I ended up with in 3 steps...pardon the photo quality, I know it sux, but it gets the point across. Initially added (3) 1/2OD x 1/4ID x 1/16 thick rubber washers over the top garnish studs. Ended up removing 1 from each side.

This left enough room to get new Star lock nuts pressed on the back, and the garnish is pretty much flush. No TSS errors when I moved the struck into the garage to start working on the raptor lights (which is turning into a total Charlie Foxtrot, but that’s a different thread).

Looks good. Now if the star washers hold on you'll be alright. It looks like they're just barely hanging on. I guess that's why mine had to be crooked.

They are just barley hanging on. I’m going to pay attention to them for a while. The good thing about them, is the more force is applied, the harder they bite. I’m hopeful they won’t become an issue.

Mine looks about the same ... it is definitely not flush/flat. I’ve got an OEM Pro grille.
