Hey man if I were you I would biuld a 6 foot flatbed for your rig. I know it sounds too long, but take a look at this rig, I think it looks good with a little longer bed with the sloped tool boxes. Just remember to make the bed lines match the slope of the window line on the door. biuld it high enough that you can upgrade to bigger tires later without changing your bed around, but not so high that it's uncomfy to lean on and drink a beer. About belly button high is how I start, then I stack stuff and lay a piece of steel at that height and get back and look at it, then adjust from there.

I was just digging around on the toyota austrailia web site. This is straight from the section about picking out a tray (flatbed) when buying a new hilux.

Available in lightweight aluminium, steel, and with a range of different styles to choose from, deciding which tray body construction material best suits you is easy. If you're going to be throwing heavy-duty loads into the back of your HiLux, such as bricks, rocks, or spare parts, then the steel tray body is the perfect fit for your tough jobs. If you are placing cargo such as parcels into your tray, then the aluminium tray bodies are perfect for you.

For those that don't know..parcels are also known as cardboard boxes. So yeah, that pretty much sums up the aluminum vs steel argument.

The results of a rear end accident. It is not done yet, I plan on adding fenders, to contain the road debris thrown up by the tires, and folding bedsides, and some filler panels to tidy it up.
I built it the width of the OE fender flairs, and the length of the original bed, plus the bumper, the reinforcing collar of the hitch is just outside the wall.

Hidden underneath is a 12 gallon fresh water tank, with an RV pump, a Viair 350c air compressor, with a 5 gallon tank, and a second battery to help with the power demands.
    20171027_142458.jpg
Through the back, I have storage for my 48 inch Hi-lift jack, a D handle shovel, and an axe, with room left for some Maxtrax, or simmilar. Kind of hard to see in the pictures, but under the door, and next to the backup lights, are a couple of flip up covers, on the left is a pair of 2GA wires for heavy duty power, like a receiver mounted winch, and on the right an air outlet, and a water spigot.

    20171103_074044.jpg
The port with the blue cap is the filler for the water tank.

Great design dude, very functional for the amount of space. Waaaaaayyyyyy to boxy for my tastes, but that's only an opinion. If you want some light weight fold down sides, go to anywhere that builds stock trailers. They have 6 inch wide x 20 feet long stamped metal with a curved lip. It is very strong and not very heavy at all, and they sell stainless steel quick release hinge kits on ebay.

I am having a 20 gallon made out of 12 ga stainless with an plate on top to mount a 12 volt pump. It has kind of trapezoidal shape so it can be unbolted and twisted for removal without removing flatbed.

Great for a rock buggy. 100% impractical for a vehicle that has a license plate.
