Recently purchased a Dark Gray 23 Limited without side steps. I intentionally bypassed trucks with side steps because I've never been a fan. However, it has become apparent that my 65 year old, 5'2 wife struggles getting into her passenger seat. She says it's fine but I am going to purchase some sort of assistance to help her get in.

I'm sticking with OEM Toyota options. There are a few to pick from. 5" oval dark, a running board type option and an option that actually has steps. My truck has the Nightshade package so I don't want any chrome, just dark

Before purchasing I'd like to get an idea of what these would look like on the truck and hopefully some feedback on how helpful each of the options are getting into the truck. Could any of you that have one of the toyota options please post some pics? If your truck is dark grey even better.

I have the Predator steps as a temporary, better-than-nothing option.

The upside: They are factory, bolt right up, and provide a much-needed step.

The downside: The step surface is limited. The steps are not very wide, and the (vertical) space between the step and the upper rail is tight. You barely have room for the toe of your shoe.

I would recommend stopping by at a dealership and “test drive” before you buy, if they have any trucks with factory steps installed.

I have the 5" ovals. My wife uses them. It's kinda funny watching. They are a little high so she has to duct getting in while holding the grab handle. I still open doors for her so I'm always there to grab her ass as I pretend to assist her in.

I'm 6 foot so I don't use them to get in. Sometimes I use them to get out depending on how my knees feel. I'll put a foot on it to help rotate my ass in the seat or slide over more just so I'm not sliding with my full weight on the seat wearing it out faster.

I change my shoes at the truck for work too. The step is good for that.

I use them to wash the truck and windows. Put a foot on the step and tire to get the hood and windshield. Do the same for the back for back window or reaching in the bed.

I think they do add some road rock protection and possible door ding protection. You really don't notice them from the side view. Probably better looking than bare frame.

^This. 2nd generation bolt right up and are a lot cheaper. I got mine for around $350 and look similar to below. No probs in over 3 years and still look brand new.

I’d stay away from the predator steps that Toyota offers. They came on my truck and I can’t tell you how many times I would hit my ankles on the lower step getting in. Took them off quickly and then replaced them with sliders.

Second'ing these. Weren't cheap, and I really prefer the no steps look, but they're so practical I absolutely love them. Nice and wide, they've got a really heavy textured coating on them for amazing grip (think more like lava rock, and less like grip tape or textured plastic), and they deflect a ton of rocks the mudflaps don't stop. Also looks like they'd do a number on most car's doors before they would ding yours. They don't hang down very far either so your ground clearance isn't too bad under them. It's basically an "open" design without any cavities, seams or overlaps, etc. to trap moisture and road salt, so I think they'll last quite a while without any special care.

Sort of necro bump, but curious if anyone recognizes the pattern on the plastic “step areas” for lack of a better term. Got a FB marketplace listing where the guy says these are OEM, but I’ve not seen any pictures on various dealership parts sites showing this pattern, it’s always the ones with the diagonal lines…

    FB listing:

Every other OEM 5in oval tube step pattern I’ve seen:
