i just use my tacoma to move my boat to my driveway to wash it. i tow the boat with a duramax. i bought the tacoma to save milage on my duramax. now i don't care to drive my duramax at all. my truck is a 1996 DLX 4X4 2.7L standard with 225000 miles and looks and drives great with no problems.

Hey, how well does it tow ~3300 lbs? How does it do on the hills? How about pulling that boat out of the water? Does wind resistance cause you many problems?

I am considering a 4 cyl 4x4 Access Cab and will need to tow about ~2300 camper (16' Scamp, I hope) and a fish 'n ski boat (16' aluminum/fiberglass with something like 85 HP). Just let me know about your experiences towing, please!

Well, the boat isn't mine - I was just helping a friend launch it for the season so I've never had to bring it back out :)

3300 pounds is on the upper end of the truck in my opinion. Having a longer WB would help out (like an access cab). I drove a hilly ~250 mile stretch of coastal highway (US 101) with that particular trailer and the truck did well. Most hills I climbed in third, with one requiring second. I know someone will call BS, but I netted 18mpg on that trip.

Wind is noticeable but it has never shoved me around while towing. 2300 pounds is a snap - my pal's boat and trailer were ~2000lbs and made for an easy drive to the lake.

    hope this helps.

here is my old '09 2.7 auto. I had only about 300 lbs left to the max 3500 lb towing capacity. The Tacoma towed the boat great but I was concerned about safety with my adult kids borrowing the truck and boat. So I traded it in on a Titan Crew Cab. Love the Titan but I sure miss the combined 22 mpg I was getting in the Tacoma. only getting about 14 mpg on the titan. Wish I could of kept both trucks, but wasn't in the cards.

I picked up a 2011 tacoma double cab about two months ago and I'm very pleased with the truck. I'm averaging about 23 mpgs and if it's a long drive somewhere where and its mainly highway, it'll get close to 24 mpgs. And thats with my two kids in the back, camping stuff and one big o dog in the back. I thought my leer xl would mess with my mpg, but it didn't...thank God...since gas is a little over $4 dollars a gallon.

Ya, somethings are great up here, but some things are way overpriced. I think the Tacoma I bought came stock with alot more then it would have in the States though. Stock Bilsteins, DTRL, rubber mats, and window tint. Not sure why but its just an SR5

Absolutely not! I towed an unloaded (900lb) trailer last month and used 5th gear on the flats and downhill sections. Even at that low weight 5th was a stretch and probably not the greatest idea.
