Bit of a head scratcher here. Working on a 2018 TRD OR V6 w/manual transmission. 02 sensor I'm changing out is downstream left. Denso part is 234-8009. The plug connector for this part doesn't match to what's on my truck. Figured I'd ordered the wrong part, but doublechecked on three different part catalogs--Denso 234-8009 should be the right part. See attached photo w/both plugs--on top is old; on bottom is Denso 234-8009. Other photo is of socket on truck. Plastic tab between the pins isn't the only problem--the entire 02 plug seems to be a bit misshaped for the receiver plug. Questions: 1) am I overlooking something forehead-slappingly obvious here? I welcome your mockery if so. This is by far the newest vehicle I've ever worked on, so I'm sure there are some things of which I am unaware. 2) With Toyotas, I've always used Denso for more sensitive parts like this. Is a non-OEM equivalent part okay? For instance, Walker? Local auto parts store had a Walker O2 sensor that would fit, but I've never used that brand.

Can you depin the new one and move the pins into the old plug? You should be able to pull out the white part, then release the pins one by one from the little catch on top that holds them, provided the actual pins are the same.

@greenms, which side of the engine are working on?

    2 different types of connectors. H3 Bank1, H4 Bank2

Too much hassles for the OP, or anybody else who comes across this problem to depin new connectors, be wasting time, and money. Could destroy connectors, and up throwing it away. Better to return old O2 sensor, get the right part.

Wrong part. 234-8005 has the matching plug: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=9551540&cc=3354143&pt=5132

234-8009 is shown as for right bank: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=9551556&cc=3354143&pt=5132

I think the issue with a wrong part is that the engine's side is being defined from the rear of the engine by most o2 sensor manufacturers.

^Yes Toyota identifies driver's side as bank 2 for the V6, while Denso identifies driver's side as bank 1. @greenms make sure you're diagnosing the component correctly. Most scan tools say bank number, not left/right. Driver's side downstream sensor would be bank 2 sensor 2.

Meanwhile Toyota identifies the driver's side as bank 1 in the 4.6L and 4.7L V8s :rasta:

Thanks so much to everybody! My scanner says bank 2; @3JOH22A I think you hit it on the head with the confusion between Toyota and Denso's categorization of banks/sides; I saw downstream Left and assumed it meant driver's side. Thanks as well for including the link to the correct rockauto part.

I read that o2 sensors should be purchased from Toyota along with MAF,spark plugs….

Denso and NGK/NTK are fine as long as the part is correct and not a counterfeit. Car Care Nut sees things differently because the disruption and downtime from an incorrect part are more costly from the perspective of a shop owner.
