I have. Get ready for "Pine-stripes" if you haven't been on narrow trails before.

It's mostly sand, whoop-de-doos, and mud pits. Can be a lot of fun with a group, but definitely don't go alone. It's a (very friggen large) maze.

I won't take this truck. Not until it's at least a few years old.

The beauty of the pines is it is what you make of it. I’ve been there dozens of times in all different regions of it and I’ve used both front and rear lockers to get thru spots and I’ve driven in 2wd the entire day other spots. But you’ve got to go out and drive the trails to find nice spots. Nothing on the internet is going to help you find some glory hole spot in a 1,000,000 acre area. Look at a map, find something that looks cool, then navigate your way to it.

I grew up wheeling out in the pine barrens. Theres a lot of cool hidden spots but as far as technical driving goes the worst you encounter is impassable mud pits and puddles I used to lead jeep trail rides of 20-30 jeeps back there in spots. Its fun to explore just try and be aware of where you are at. You can def get lost back there for hours in spots. Wharton st forest has some cool spots and lots of history back there. Forked river mountain area is fun(its not a real mountain) no rocks to crawl just sand, water and mud pits. Trails tend to lead into huge gravel pits which are fun but illegal to wheel. I would just double check every puddle or water crossing. I used to take my 4 door jk on 1 tons and 40's out there and theres plenty of spots i wouldn't dare attempt to cross. The puddles there will swallow up modified rigs like its nothing.

I'm in Jersey, interested in meeting up sometime for some wheeling. Still working on assembling the stuff that I need so not sure I'm ready yet but in the next few weeks I should be good to go.

Aside from the Pine Barrens & Wharton there's also the "Trans-New Jersey Trail" which looks interesting.

I'm originally from Bridgewater. Went to the Pine Barrens in the early 80's once with my Nissan pickup and Honda Odyssey. We were launching that thing about 6 ft in the air out of a gully. Lol

Lots of great trails throughout Wharton and the surrounding Pines. People on this site are too scared to spread the word of specific places around cause of fear of eventual shutdown or getting “their spots” crowded. But honestly, the growth/interest of off-roading is only getting bigger. You will find far more in the Off-road Nj Facebook groups IMO. They do meetups & trail rides. You won’t get pinstripes.
