I’m not sure what to make of this but I just notice my 2013 4.0 DBC with a Magnuson supercharger is pinging out of no where. Never had this issue truck has 132,000 miles. Under acceleration you can hear the marbles in a rattling can sound. All maintenance is done. The only thing I recently done is have a tpms replaced but I couldn’t imagine that had anything to do with it. I know there was a TSB for this issue along time ago. Maybe when they went to reprogram my the TPMS they messed something up?

Mine seems to ping more when we get the winter gas. About this time of yr. You shouldn’t have that problem in CA. But who knows about fuel shipments.

I have to run premium in winter being here in WA state. I know a lot of people say it doesn’t make a difference in Tacomas but mine starts pinging as soon as the winter gas rolls out, usually around Nov. 1st.

Trying a tank of premium gas sounds like a good start to see if that fixes things

If he's supercharged, he should already be running premium gas

Running a similar set up and I always use premium or 94oct now that its back. Im at 162k and it def runs better. I also use Lucas deep clean large bottle once a month and it def keeps my mpg in the green.
