Ok so I got my new seal mounted up, but I think because of the rust on the edge of the opening, it scrapped the edges of the new seal. Is this a concern, should I buy and new seal and clean up this edge, or am I ok. Thanks

If you're talking about the outer edge then I wouldn't worry about it. The main sealing comes from the inner rubber and the horizontal part. Not the outer lip.

Yes the outer side of the seal got real buggered up on the rust when I was putting it in. So the seal only leaks from deformities from the inner opening?

The inner part and the main outer body of the seal. Sorry I just looked at an extra one that I have and there is no lip. The old chevy days. Chances are you're fine but getting a new one and cleaning up the rust is 100%
