OP here. Don’t be mad all, as I am already ticked for not following the advice of you all. Update from the dealer: They did a pressure test on the radiator and the cap. Wait for it.......radiator passed, the cap didn’t. The seal within the cap had disintegrated. No leaks otherwise.

I should have listened. I’m an hour of the dealer’s labor plus the cost of the OEM new cap ($22) poorer. My fault.

Decades ago I worked in a radiator shop. Some of the work was PM. Most was overheating related.

The PM folks were regulars. We’d pressure test the caps and look them over. We’d stick the thermostats into the boil out tank to make sure they weren’t sticking.

On overheating issues we just tossed the caps and stats. If in doubt toss them, cheap insurance.
