I'll get a picture up asap, but it is FROZEN outside and I hate the cold. I don't have a garage, so the truck is Demolition Man frozen in ice right now.

Did you have to flash the Maestro for the Pioneer and Car Interface? Connecting it to a computer with usb etc. or it just worked out of the box

I had to flash the Maestro but it was pretty easy with the application. I used my Mac.

Okay guys and gals, I am experiencing a bug and wanted to see if anybody else is. Maestro claims it's a Pioneer bug. Here is my video of the bug and Maestro's response. Do I have a bad pioneer unit? I'm still under warranty.

    My Note to Maestro:

I installed a DMH-WC6600 FW 1.3 in my 2017 Tacoma with JBL. I have the older version of the maestro RR (and maybe the older TOYO2 harness; I don’t have the OBDII wire connected, but still have all the vehicle features and gauges working. I followed the 2017 wiring diagram) flashed with 3.2 firmware. I also have a power jumper from my previous W4500NEX install so the pioneer is directly powered from the vehicle.

Here is a link to the video:
    https://youtu.be/aBeyyViwCiw

When I start my car I connect to CarPlay immediately and the cluster does not populate with song information. In order to get it to populate I need to go into iPod and back to apple CarPlay. If I go directly to HD radio/tuner and back to CarPlay, it will only populate two of the three fields in the cluster. Going to other sources besides radio seem to have the same effect as iPod. I am also not able to select a source from the steering wheel controls as shown in the video. I am using the default Maestro presets for the steering wheel controls.

I later on found that hitting the Siri/voice button populates the info after Siri clears.

    Here was Maestro's response:

    TH,

The short answer is that we found a bug in the radio firmware. When this issue happens, the RR receives some meta data, but it’s missing the source. Because the information is incomplete, we send the last known source. We have reported the bug to Pioneer, in hopes that they can resolve it with a firmware update.

    I hope I'm not alone,
    Thanks

Sorry for the delay, but you mentioned being able to tell if my bezel would fit the 6600 from a picture. Here's the pic, can you tell if I'll need a different bezel?

This is from my 2020 SR AC Utility:
    20210213_111928.jpg

This is from my buddy's 2020 Pro:
    20210212_151618.jpg

I couldn't tell a discernible difference from the two, but alas, I did not measure my buddy's pro (just remembered to take a quick picture).

Hey everyone thank you for all the input. I studied this thread and the other install thread. It was my first head unit install and I was quite intimidated honestly. Overall it took about 4 hours for wiring & install. Seems to be working pretty well. A few things I’m having trouble with:

1: does not seem to dim- I connect orange wires I also looked in settings and it’s on auto. When I setup by time it works.

    2. It would not update via wireless. I will read and try by USB. With the USB method you use your phone correct?

    3. The original USB port is not working. I connected the small USB port that came with the head unit to the back of the radio then the usb adaptor to that then the gray truck USB into that. Thoughts?

    4. I cannot add anything to the Home Screen right now time & music are on it.

Works great so far besides the small issues I’m having. Looks beautiful!

Congrats on the install! Looks very clean.

For 1: This happened to me initially, it's important to make sure you connect the orange wire to the orange/white wire. There's a white stripe that goes along the wire, pull the unit out and make sure that's the one being used. Also, check and make sure that the wires are secured properly.

For 2: I've never attempted to install the update wirelessly, it's always prompted me to connect directly with USB cable. You can install the update either through the phone or directly with a USB stick using an update file found on Pioneer's website. Instructions are found here, downloads for firmware files can be found here if that's the route you want to take.

For 3: It's possible that the USB connector became loose or disconnected while fitting the unit back into the slot. If it's connected, check and see if a direct USB-C cable recognizes your device for testing purposes. Perhaps the actual USB-C input is faulty. Make sure all the corresponding cables are securely connected/clipped and test the stock USB port while the unit is pulled out for confirmation. If issues continue, I'd contact Pioneer and check if they have any recommendations.

For 4: Get the unit updated and check if that helps with adding items to the screen.

If you haven't confirmed yet, I don't think you need a different bezel with that Radio. I'm pretty sure the older 2018/2019 OR/Sport radios were the same size as that with the premium bezel. Just check and make sure that the diagonal measurement falls in line with the dimensions on the Pioneer unit.

Great thank you today I’ll review my work and see what I find!

one more question I did not use the OBDII harness. I did not see the two connections to hook it up in the wiring harness did I miss something?
    Thanks again for the help.

You have to disconnect one cable right by the 28 pin connector. Then, shortly down the cable, you plug in the other side of the OBDII cable.

Anybody else not having the cluster populate automatically with CarPlay?

I love the unit. I use it almost exclusively in CarPlay mode. Things like firmware updates are a little weird and not very intuitive but otherwise things just work.

The install and wiring was relatively straightforward outside of modifying the trim kit and how “factory” you want things like the microphone, GPS antenna, etc. It comes with parts that are meant to be visible (clips on the microphone, sticker for GPS), but you can hide them if your willing to remove covers, run wires, etc.

Rough fit of the trim is just removing material and sanding. Once I got rough fit (pic from original post) I lived with it for a while but I’ve spent a couple extra hours on the weekends doing a decent amount of finer finish work (filler, sanding, paint) to make the trim look as close to “finished” as possible. I’ll try and take some pics.

Mine is still is not perfect because it was a bit of trial and error on removing material and I removed too much in some areas, mainly on the top. It’s not that noticeable now that I’ve sanded and painted it.

If it really bothered me, now that I have a template, I could buy another trim kit and probably get a better look and fit, but it doesn’t and I don’t want to spend another $60.

I got tired of the wait and got the 7600NEX which still fit but not as easily as the 6600, and is more expensive too.
Now those are out of stock too, so I will say it would be a while.

It’s worth watching driveinautosound.com for refurbished units.

@foolhardy your setup looks really good man! Would you mind taking some more pics of this setup. Maybe a close up of the gaps and one from further back? This has to be the best possible option for a 2nd gen. I almost attempted this but wasn't sure it would work.

Thanks. Here are some closer pics. The gap at the top was avoidable (I removed too much material when I was fitting). The sides and bottom really aren't because in order to fit around the screen you have to remove the side and bottom bevels. My plan is to glue/fill and then re-sand and paint the whole thing. It won't be "factory" but I like better than the floating screen alternative.

@foolhardy Solid job man. Could the unit be tilted or pulled forward to eliminate that bottom gap?
